Green Wave earn 4-0 wins over Northwestern State & Southern

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team (6-0) continued its winning ways on Saturday when the Green Wave swept both Northwestern State and Southern via 4-0 final scores. Freshman Ivone Alvaro picked up her first collegiate wins with the Wave with a 2-0 day at No. 4 singles while junior Naz Karagoz remained unblemished at the No. 1 spot, picking up a pair of straight-set victories to improve to 6-0.

"I thought Northwestern State did a good job of setting the tone early, playing aggressive and trying to dictate, but we answered the call to that. Southern then brought a different vibe in the second match so we had to be mentally ready for that," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk stated. "I think we are just now finding out who we really are. The girls are excited and everyone is on the same page. The sky is the limit for sure."

In other singles action, Christina Sisti moved to 4-0 in dual action with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court six over Northwestern State's Kateryna Avram. Next, Sade Atkinson improved to 3-1 after a 6-0, 6-2 win over Southern's Darnesha Moore.

Doubles play saw the formation of a new Green Wave pairing consisting of Sade Atkinson and Kyla Klier, who competed on court one today. The duo won 6-2 vs Northwestern State, then 6-1 vs Southern. Furthermore, Alvaro and Sisti partnered for the first time, earning a 6-1 win over Southern on court three.

Up next, the Wave hit the road to Tucson for two matches. Up first is the University of Arizona on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 2:30 p.m. CT. Then, Tulane challenges UTEP on Friday at 11 a.m.
