SAN JOSÉ DEL CABO, Mexico – Tulane women's golf closes out its 2017 fall schedule this weekend south of the border at Club Campestre San José for Battle of the Beach.
The Green Wave are once again competing as a part of an impressive field that includes eight teams ranked in the top 40 of the most recent Golfweek Women's Team Collegiate Rankings. No. 1 ranked UCLA headlines the 14-team field along with No. 11 Texas, No. 20 Vanderbilt, No. 22 Wake Forest, No. 24 North Carolina, No. 25 Virginia, No. 30 Oklahoma and No. 36 Houston. Mississippi State, Ohio State, TCU and host Baylor round out the field for the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
Head coach Lorne Don said his Tulane squad had some constructive practice sessions over the past couple of weeks in preparation for the fourth and final tournament before the spring portion of the schedule.
"We've seen a lot of great things so far from everyone," Don said. "We have a tournament win under our belt and we want to put that all together against a really strong field. One of the things we have been really working on is consistency and we would love to see that over three rounds in Cabo."
The Green Wave lineup for Battle at the Beach is set for sophomore Gabrielle Correia at No. 1, freshman Jennifer Rosenberg at No. 2, junior Laura Munoz at No. 3, junior Abbie Cantwell at No. 4 and sophomore Haydyn Gibson at No. 5 with redshirt sophomore Elise Genoux competing an an individual. Correia leads Tulane with a 73.67 stroke average and shares the team lead with Rosenberg with four rounds of par or better.
Don said the trio of Correia, Rosenberg and Munoz has anchored the team's lineup this fall, and he looks for them to put the Wave in position to close out the fall on a high note.
"Laura has been very consistent for us, as she has been the last couple of years," Don said. "Gabrielle has really stepped up her game – taking it to that next level – and shot some really get rounds for us. Jennifer has come in and really made a splash for us and has started off her career at Tulane really well through three tournaments."
