Hawk Classic Final Results
MILLSBORO, Del. – No. 17 Tulane bowling capped the fall schedule with an eighth-place finish at the Hawk Classic, hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore at Millsboro Lanes. The Green Wave posted a 7-6 record, 13,135 pin total, and 187.6 pin average in the tournament.
Tulane was one of 11 ranked schools in the 16-team tournament field, and picked up victories over No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore and No. 9 Sacred Heart. The Green Wave went 3-2 in Baker matches on Friday, totaling 4,650 pins, with a 981-929 defeat of UMES.
In traditional play on Saturday, the Wave totaled 4,695 pins with a 1,004-961 victory over Sacred Heart. Tulane also picked up more than 1,000 pins in a big 1,097-873 win over St. Francis (N.Y.) – its largest margin of the weekend.
Senior Michelle Ng led the individual bowlers with 1.027 pins on Saturday, averaging 205.4 pins to place 13th in the individual standings. Sophomore Isabelle Lee placed 47th with a 205.25 average and 821 pins in four matches. Junior Tiera Gulum averaged 193.5 pins and totaled 774 pins in four matches to place 54th.
From the ninth position in the standings entering bracket play on Sunday, Tulane defeated Caldwell, 4-2 (215-188, 191-179, 188-202, 183-185, 188-170, 214-174) and No. 18 North Carolina A&T, 4.5-2.5 (177-183, 186-186, 179-178, 257-138, 182-216, 193-171, 225-164). The Wave narrowly fell to No. 16 Long Island-Brooklyn, 4-3 (148-173, 193-183, 173-191, 177-155, 170-159, 169-192, 182-188) in the final round to finish eighth.
The Green Wave have completed the fall portion of the schedule, and return to action Jan. 12-14, 2018, at the Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark.
