
Women's Golf Slips to Seventh Going into Final Round at American Athletic Conference Championship

PALM COAST, Fla. – The Tulane women's golf team preserved through a challenging second round to remain just five strokes from a top-four finish heading into the final round of the 2017 American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship.
Tulane shot a 298 (+10) in the second round to drop two spots on the leaderboard to seventh at 592 (+16). Entering the final round, the Green Wave are just one shot behind Tulsa (592, +15) in sixth, four shots behind East Carolina (588, +12) in fifth and five shots behind Cincinnati (587, +11) in fourth. Houston moved in the 36-hole lead at 572 (-4) with UCF (573, -3) right behind in second and SMU (580, +4) in third.
Sophomore Laura Munoz paced Tulane with a 73 (+1), shaving five strokes off her first-round score. She stood at even par through the front nine and got to one under par after a birdie on the par 5, 518-yard 10th hole. The Ibague, Colombia, native held at one under until bogeys on the 15th and 18th holes to finish her day one stroke over par.Â
Fellow sophomore Sofia Goicoechea posted a 74 (+2) for three-stroke improvement from the first round. The Necochea, Argentina, native made the turn at two over par and held steady over the back nine, thanks to a birdie on the 12th hole and a bogey on the 13th hole.
Freshman Gabrielle Correia with a 75 (+3) and redshirt freshman Elise Genoux a 74 (+4) rounded out the second-round scoring for the Olive and Blue.Â
Tuesday's final round gets underway for Tulane with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. The American Digital Network is set for live coverage starting at 11 a.m.
