Who:Â Haydyn Gibson, Women's Golf
What: Working on her golf game
When: Summer 2017
Where: Clearwater, Fla.
Q1: How have you enjoyed your summer playing golf competitively? What have been the positives and the challenges?
It's been great seeing all my friends! After high school, we all went to different colleges and seeing them again during the events is just like the old days. I've also played some new courses and I've played a variety of tournament formats, including a four-ball event, a pro-team event, and a bunch of one-day events. I recently got all new clubs. They help with accuracy and distance, but it's been a little challenging getting used to a whole new set of clubs. I've been practicing a lot and see improvements every day.
Â
Q2: What are the aspects of your game you have worked on the most over the summer and feel you have made improvements?
I've been working hard on my mental game and putting. I've played a lot of rounds at different courses. I am going to play Bay Hill in August and I'm really looking forward to that. I generally play from the tips during the summer which I think helps improve my golf course management and gets me ready for the upcoming season.
Â
Q3: What fun things have you done this in your spare time away from the golf course?
I'm going to New York City next weekend and then flying to Sweden to visit my teammate, Ebba. I love to travel!
Â
Q4: What other sports interest you besides golf? Do you have teams you follow closely? If so, how did you become a fan of those teams?
My brother played baseball growing up so I've always followed baseball. I've been to a couple Tampa Bay Rays games this summer. I also like hockey and follow the Tampa Bay Lighting.
Q5: How would you describe your first year at Tulane, in terms of integrating to life on campus and getting to know New Orleans?
My first year at Tulane was fantastic! Tulane is the perfect fit for me and I really enjoyed my first year of classes. I made new friends from all around the world which made moving to a new place easier. New Orleans quickly felt like a second home! I love the atmosphere, the food and the people.Â
Â
Q6: What has you excited about coming back for campus this fall and preparing to compete during the 2017-18 season?
I am looking forward to getting back to competing again so I can put my hard work to use. Our new schedule lets us travel to great places and I can't wait to get started!
