Football Closes Third Week of Preseason Camp
Aug 18, 2017 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane football capped its third week of preseason camp with a workout and scrimmage Friday morning at the New Orleans Saints indoor facility in Metairie.
The Green Wave held their 17th practice of the preseason, scrimmaging with American Athletic Conference officials on hand, as the team rounds out the depth chart and prepares for the Sept. 2 season opener against Grambling State.
"I thought it was a good workout for us," head coach Willie Fritz said. "We didn't tackle today. We have a few guys banged up and two days off coming now. We have good depth right now, and I don't want to screw that up. Two-minute was great today. Obviously, the offense has the advantage because we're not tackling, but the mechanics of it is so important."
The team received a visit at practice from New Orleans Saints owner and namesake of the Yulman Stadium field, Tom Benson and his wife, Gayle, who delivered well-wishes to the team for the upcoming season.
"We're really honored that they would come out and watch practice," Fritz said. "I tell our guys all the time, if you're rooting for the NFL, it's the Saints, the Saints, the Saints, and nobody else but the Saints. It's great of them to let us come out here and use this great, great facility."
The Green Wave will take the weekend off before returning to the practice field Monday. The focus will remain on Tulane, Fritz noted, until Wednesday when the focus turns to Grambling State.
"We're going to go hard Monday through Friday, and give them next weekend off too, and then we'll be in game week mode," Fritz said. "This is good time off. Hopefully everybody uses it to their advantage and gets rested."
Season tickets, mini-plans and single game tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased by calling 504-861-WAVE (9283), logging onto TulaneTix.com or visiting the ticket office at the James W.
