Sep 1, 2017 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – In a display of support for the millions of residents affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and the southwest Louisiana coastal region this past week, Tulane Athletics announced on Friday the Green Wave football team will make two additions to their team entrance.
As the Green Wave football team takes the field Saturday night, it will be led by flags representing the states of Texas and Louisiana, along with the No. 18 flag that traditionally leads the team onto the field. The Texas state flag will be carried by sophomore quarterback Johnathan Brantley, a Houston native, while the Louisiana flag will be carried by senior defensive lineman Sean Wilson, a native of Port Sulphur, La. Senior cornerback Parry Nickerson will carry the No. 18 flag, representing the jersey number of Devon Walker, a former Tulane football player who was injured and paralyzed during a 2012 game.
In addition, Tulane Athletics encourages fans to join the Green Wave and American Athletic Conference in supporting disaster relief efforts. Fans can give to the American Red Cross by texting HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation, or donate online at https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/team/hurricane-harvey.
Kickoff for Saturday's season opener against Grambling State is at 7 p.m. at Yulman Stadium. Tickets are available, and can be purchased online at TulaneTix.com, by calling 504-861-WAVE (9283), or in person at the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office, located in the James W. Wilson Jr. Center on Ben Weiner Drive.
