Tulane Swimming and Diving Opens 2018-19 Season on Saturday
Oct 5, 2018 | Women's Swimming and Diving
NEW ORLEANS – A new era of Tulane University women's swimming and diving begins Saturday as first-year head coach Leah Stancil leads the Green Wave into their first meet of the season against conference foe Houston.
Â
Tulane's season-opening meet is set to begin at 10 a.m. in the Reily Student Recreation Center Natatorium. Admission for the meet is free for all fans. The event also serves as the Mental Health Awareness Green Meet.
Â
"I am very excited for the first meet because it will help Kosuke (Kojima) and I get a good observation and evaluation of where we are as a team both athletically and aerobically, so I am excited to see what happens against a conference rival. Each week of practice has got better, so it will be great to see how it will show up in competition."
Â
The Green Wave will look to build on their 2017-18 campaign where the team placed fifth at the American Athletic Conference Championships and placed six individuals on the AAC's All-Conference team.
Â
Five of those six individuals have returned for the 2018-19 season and have provided strong leadership leading up to the team's first meet of the year.
Â
"I have been extremely blessed with the leadership of the team," Stancil said. "They are a phenomenal group of girls and I have no complaints. They have been extremely helpful in the transition of everything."
Â
Houston is coming off of a pair of convincing victories over UT Permian Basin and Incarnate Word last weekend. The Cougars won 14 of the 16 events and had 27 top-three finishes.
