Nov 27, 2018 | Football
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane University quarterback Justin McMillan was recognized for the third time this week following his performance in the Green Wave's thrilling 29-28 victory over Navy on Saturday.
Â
McMillan's third piece of recognition came from the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award where he was named honorable mention.
Â
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
McMillan received the weekly honor after he finished with 342 yards of total offense. He completed 18 of 29 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 51 yards and a TD on eight carries. He also engineered the game-winning drive in the final minutes of the fourth quarter as he led a seven-play, 71-yard scoring drive capped by his 26-yard touchdown pass to Jaetavian Toles and a game-winning two-point conversion pass to Charles Jones II.
On Monday he was honored by the American Athletic Conference, as he was named Offensive Player of the Week. His second piece of recognition on Monday came from The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl where he was one of eight quarterbacks selected as the "Stars of the Week."
 Â
Tulane will return to action after its bowl destination has been decided.Â
