Beach Volleyball Closes Weekend with Win Against No. 12 FIU

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Tulane beach volleyball picked up a thrilling conference win against No. 12 FIU, but dropped duals against No. 7 FSU and TCU to wrap up its weekend at the Surf 'N' Turf Invitational. The Green Wave's record stands at 12-10 overall, 3-5 CCSA.

HOW IT HAPPENED
#7 Florida State 5, Tulane 0
The morning started with a loss at the hands of FSU. Florida State swept Tulane, winning flights one, two, four and five in straight sets.
Senior Lan Nguyen and sophomore Tarin Mergener played together as the Green Wave's No. 3 pair and battled to three sets. The duo ultimately fell by a score of 15-21, 21-18, 10-15.
Tulane 3, #12 FIU 2
Tulane rebounded from the loss with a dramatic win over FIU to earn its third conference win of the season.
The Green Wave struck first with a win in flight five to take an early 1-0 lead. Freshmen Ashley Delgado and Addison Hermstad teamed up to defeat FIU's pair by a score of 21-12, 21-16. Tulane continued to roll, as Nguyen and Mergener earned a 13-21, 21-10, 15-11 win to extend the lead to 2-0.
FIU answered back with wins in flights four and one, tying the dual at two. Freshman Rio Frohoff and Gabriella Becerra, playing at No. 4, lost 13-21, 21-12, 6-15 while Tulane's top pair of senior Madeline Mertz and Kaylie McHugh were downed in three sets (16-21, 21-15, 7-15).
Tied at two, the attention turned to the dual-deciding match in flight two. Junior Anna Chin and freshman Lauren Orlich battled for each and every point of the three sets before winning by a score of 26-28, 21-18, 20-18 to earn Tulane a dual win.
TCU 4, Tulane 1
The Green Wave finished the day with a loss, falling to TCU.
Tulane held an early lead after Mertz and McHugh won in straight sets (21-19, 21-13) against the opponent's top pair, but TCU fired back. TCU won flights two, three, four and five - all in straight sets - to pick up a 4-1 win.
UP NEXT
The Green Wave are finally home. Tulane hosts Louisiana Monroe on Wednesday in a doubleheader at White Sands Volleyball Courts, with the first dual starting at 11 a.m.
