First Round Results | Round Two Pairings
NAPA, Calif. – The Tulane University women's golf team opened play at the 2018 Silverado Showdown on Sunday and currently sit in 17th place after posting a round one score of 313. The three-day event is being held at the par 72, 6,202-yard Silverado Resort.
Â
The Green Wave finished the day by totaling eight birdies and 46 pars as a team.
Â
"The golf course is amazing," head coach Lorne Don said. "The pin placements today were very challenging and they have them in some good locations, so you have to hit some really quality golf shots to the right areas of the greens. At times we did that, which was good to see, but we did not do that for 18 holes."
Â
Freshman Jennifer Rosenberg led the way for the Green Wave, finishing the opening round tied for 32nd thanks to a score of 75. The Laurel Hollow, N.Y. native began the day on the back nine and went four-over-par. She then rebounded on the front nine by going one-under-par thanks to a pair of birdies on holes No. 2 and No. 7.
Â
Junior Sofia Goicoechea was the next finisher for Tulane as she posted a round one score of 78. Goicoechea also closed strong on the front nine, as she carded a score of one-under-par, tallying birdies on holes No. 8 and No. 9.
Â
Rounding out the Green Wave's top five was Laura Munoz (tied for 77th, 80), Gabrielle Correia (tied for 77th, 80) and Haydyn Gibson (84th, 83).
Â
"They are fighting out there and they are not giving up," Don said. "I think our girls like the course and the challenge of it, so all we can do is go out there and try to do better."
Â
USC holds the overall team lead after it carded a first round score 290. USC's Jennifer Chang holds the individual lead thanks to a first round 66.
