ORLANDO – Tulane University women's golfer Haydyn Gibson made her mark at the 2018 Florida Women's Amateur Championship on Sunday as she won the event by six strokes, finishing with a three-round total of six-under-par, 210.

The three-day event was held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club and featured some of the top amateur golfers in the state of Florida. Â
Â
"It was an amazing three days at the Ritz," Gibson said. "I feel honored to have won the amateur championship with such an incredible field. I was proud to represent Tulane and I would like to thank my coaches, family and friends for all their support."
Â
Gibson opened the tournament with a one-under-par score of 71. She then followed her opening round tally by carding a 72. The Clearwater, Florida, native closed on a high note by shooting a five-under-par round of 67 to capture the tournament crown.
Â
Gibson's amateur title comes just days after she and three of her teammates were selected All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).

During her 2017-18 sophomore season at Tulane, Gibson competed in all nine events and notched a career-best finish at the USA Intercollegiate, as she tied for 12th. She closed the year by tying for 28th at the American Athletic Conference Championship.
