Versatile Leglue, Offensive Line Ready to Roll into 2018
Aug 16, 2018 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – John Leglue has proven to be a very versatile player over his years with the Green Wave football team.
Since his arrival on campus in 2014, Leglue has played center and tackle. This season, he'll be tasked with playing guard. And during all that position switching, Leglue has already earned his bachelor's degree and will be graduating with an MBA in December.
After fall practice at Yulman Stadium on Thursday morning, that versatility was in focus as Leglue answered questions from the media.
"He's a smart kid student-wise but he's also a smart football player," Coach Willie Fritz said. "Those don't always go hand in hand, but it sure does with him."
The redshirt senior has made the most of his time at Tulane, playing in 36 total games in three years, starting in 25 and earning two degrees. He knows his education at Tulane has been second to none.
"I had a class in Paris, and everybody in France knew what Tulane was," Leglue said. "It's a world-renowned program, and on and off the field it's going to be a really big time for Tulane graduates."
Leglue will be joined on the offensive line this year by plenty of experienced teammates. Senior Dominique Briggs, redshirt senior Devon Johnson, grad students Hunter Knighton and Noah Fisher, redshirt juniors Keyshawn McLeod and Brian Webb and junior Tyler Johnson are all upperclassmen on the roster.
The offensive linemen will also include a group of nine underclassmen who Leglue says are getting up to speed quickly thanks to excellent coaching.
"Coach [Doug] Ruse, Coach [Alex] Atkins, Coach Mack Helms, everybody on the offense, they really work hard to get everybody on the same track," Leglue said. "It probably took the [new players] a couple weeks, but everybody's continuity has grown real well from working together as a team."
Tulane returns to Yulman Stadium on Thursday morning for another fall practice.
The Green Wave open the 2018 season on Thursday, August 30 at home against Wake Forest.
