NEW ORLEANS – Eight Tulane University football players were honored this week by the Phil Steele College Football Magazine, as the publication announced its 2018 FBS Postseason All-Conference and All-America teams.
Junior long snapper Geron Eatherly highlighted the postseason awards list for the Green Wave as he was named Fourth Team All-America. Eatherly earned the recognition after he appeared in all 13 of Tulane's games in 2018. He also played a key role on Tulane's special teams unit.
In addition to Eatherly, seven other Tulane student-athletes were selected to Phil Steele's All-American Athletic Conference team.
Eatherly, senior cornerback Donnie Lewis Jr. and sophomore defensive lineman Patrick Johnson were each selected First Team All-AAC. Junior running back Darius Bradwell, junior wide receiver Darnell Mooney and senior safety Roderic Teamer Jr. were named Second Team All-AAC. Senior linebacker Zachery Harris and freshman returner Amare Jones were tabbed Third Team All-AAC.
As a senior in 2018, Lewis established himself as one of the league's best cornerbacks. Lewis led The American and ranked third nationally in passes defended, averaging 1.6 per game. He also had a team-leading three interceptions and ranked fifth on the team in tackles with 56.
Johnson was named to the team following a breakout sophomore campaign where he finished with 10.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss and 49 tackles. Bradwell's breakout junior season also saw him post single-season career best in rushing yards (1,134) and touchdowns (11). Bradwell capped the year on a high note as he earned 2018 Cure Bowl Most Valuable Player honors thanks to a game high 150 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns in the Green Wave's 41-24 win over Louisiana-Lafayette.
Mooney was selected to the team after he posted team bests in receptions (48), receiving yards (993) and touchdowns (eight). His 20.6 yards per catch led The American and ranked sixth nationally. He also started in every game.
Teamer received the all-conference nod following a senior season which saw him set a single-season high for tackles with 72. The New Orleans native finished second on the team in tackles, had six pass breakups and one interception. Teamer finished with 10 or more tackles twice and was named AAC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the East Carolina game.
