Bowling Signs Morgan Gitlitz For 2020-21
Nov 13, 2019 | Women's Bowling
NEW ORLEANS, La. – A bowler that has been a standout on the local and national level, Tulane bowling head coach Hayley Veitch has announced the signing of Morgan Gitlitz to a National Letter of Intent to bowl for the Green Wave beginning in the 2020-21 season.
Gitlitz, a native of Freehold, New Jersey, will join Tulane as one of the top young bowlers in the country where she is coming off a summer that saw her finish second at the 2019 Junior Gold tournament in the U17 division, the largest division of competition last year.
"Morgan is a very versatile bowler, who has accomplished a lot," Veitch said. "She has a superb work ethic and she is a person who we are very excited about joining our team next season."
On the cusp of her senior season at Colts Neck High School, Gitlitz will look to close her prep career on the high of a solid national television performance where, after going undefeated in the winners bracket of the girls division, rolled a 225 in the finals to place second overall out of 446 total competitors. Two weeks before that, she won the 2019 Turbo Tech Collegiate Expo title in Detroit.
The build up for that success came off the back of a junior campaign where Gitlitz helped lead her high school team to its first state championship in program history. She had a regular-season average of 214.4 to lead the Shore Conference as she was a first team all-state and all-conference selection, with Colts Neck claiming the sectional title for the second straight season.
Gitlitz finished in the top seven of five different tournaments last season, which included having a 666 series at the South Jersey Singles Classic and finishing fifth at the conference individual tournament where her high game of 279 was the best that day.
As a sophomore Gitlitz was the individual champion at the Central Jersey State Sectional event and helped lead CNHS to the sectional title as well. She was the top female bowler at the Garden State Games, as by the time the year ended she earned the first of multiple selections to the all-district team, while also being a third-team all-state pick.
In 2017 Gitlitz finished in the top 100 in the U15 Junior Gold division, while in 2016 she was the U15 Youth Open Girls Individual Handicap Champion.
A 4.0 student, Gitlitz has been a member of the Mathematics National Honor society since 2017 and the Science National Honor Society since 2018. She was also bestowed with the Shirlee Kutzner and Donald M. Roberts Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to New Jersey bowlers in their senior seasons with plans to attend college.
"Morgan has an incredible pedigree and has been coached by some of the best bowlers in the world," Veitch said. "She has an incredible competitive spirit and is someone who we feel will make our squad better for years to come."
