Eatherly Named Mannelly Award Semifinalist
Nov 20, 2019 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane football's starting long snapper Geron Eatherly has been named a Patrick Mannelly Award Semifinalist.
The San Antonio, Texas, native has played every game this season for the Green Wave's special teams unit. He has posted a 97.3 percent accuracy on 37 punt snaps and a 100 percent accuracy on 53 field goal snaps. Both numbers rank first in the American Athletic Conference (according to Pro Football Focus). Eatherly also has recorded one tackle this season.
The award, named after NFL long snapper Patrick Mannelly, is presented each season to the best FBS senior long snapper.
Eatherly earned Phil Steele Fourth Team All-America honors following the 2018 season. The long snapper also was recognized by the magazine as a Fourth-Team Preseason All-American and Preseason All-AAC First Teamer earlier this summer.
The Award is presented to the overall best Long Snapper at the Division I FBS level. The winner must be of senior standing, have started 75% of games in his senior year, snap on punts and placements, and demonstrate a strong mentality, notable athleticism, as well as speed, accuracy and consistency in their snaps. The winner will be announced Saturday, Dec. 14.
Tulane will host UCF on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Yulman Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
