Dec 23, 2019 | Football
NEW ORLEANS– Tulane University senior Geron Eatherly headlined the list of Green Wave honorees by Phil Steele Magazine, as he earned Fourth Team All-America honors for the second straight season.
Eatherly becomes just the 14th player in Tulane football history to earn multiple All-America honors.
Eatherly joins Bill Banker (1928-29), Jerry Dalrymple (1929-30-31), Don Zimmerman (1931-32), Tommy O'Boyle (1939-40), Charles Hall (1972-73-74), Roch Hontas (1978-79), Ed Murray (1978-79), Wilfred Simon (1979-80), Rodney Holman (1980-81), Robert Griffin (1980 and 82) Larry Route (1983-84), Marc Zeno (1986-87) and Parry Nickerson (2017-18).
Earlier this year, Eatherly was selected as a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award. The award, named after NFL long snapper Patrick Mannelly, is presented each season to the best FBS senior long snapper.
Eatherly also earned Phil Steele First Team All-American Athletic Conference honors for the second straight year.
The San Antonio, Texas, native earned the honors after he played in every game this season for the Green Wave's special teams unit. He posted a 97.3 percent accuracy on 46 punt snaps and a 100 percent accuracy on 62 field goal and extra point snaps. Both numbers rank first in the American Athletic Conference (according to Pro Football Focus). Eatherly also has recorded one tackle this season.
Joining Eatherly on the Phil Steele All-AAC team were offensive lineman Corey Dublin (Second Team), defensive lineman Patrick Johnson (Third Team) and defensive back Thakarius Keyes (Third Team).
Dublin was named to the team following a 2019 campaign where he helped paved the way for Tulane to rush for 249.8 yards per game. The New Orleans native also has proven himself to be a durable player throughout his collegiate career, having started in 37 straight games.
As a junior in 2019, Johnson led the team in sacks for the second consecutive year. He also finished second on the team in tackles for loss, while starting in all 12 games.
Keyes was selected to the team after he posted single-season career high with 47 tackles. His 47 stops ranked second on the team. His five pass breakups also ranked second on the team. He also started in every game at corner.
