
Cross Country's Coe, Kipchumba and Melius Earn All-Louisiana Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Three runners from the Tulane cross country team were recognized by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association after their 2019 seasons with the Green Wave, the LSWA announced Tuesday.
Sophomore Evans Kipchumba and graduate student Tom Coe each earned spots on the All Louisiana Men's Cross Country Team, while redshirt senior McKenzie Melius was voted to the All-Louisiana Women's Cross Country Team.
Kipchumba won both the UNO Opener (5K) and the Nicholls Invitational (6K) to start his second season in New Orleans, recording times of 15:13.1 and 20:52.9, respectively. The sophomore placed fifth in the LSU Invitational (5K) with a time of 15:08.4 before finishing 34th overall in the American Athletic Conference Championship with a time of 25:39 in the 8K.
Coe was right behind Kipchumba in the first two races of 2019, placing second at UNO and Nicholls with times of 15:33.2 (5K) and 21:05.3 (6K). The graduate student crossed the finish line in eighth at the LSU Invitational (5K) with a time of 15:18.6 and also finished 42nd in the AAC Championship with a time of 25:57 in the 8K.
Melius won the Nicholls Invitational for the second year in a row, finishing the 5K with a time of 18:56.4. The redshirt senior also placed second at UNO with a time of 14:51.8 in the 4K and finished fourth at the LSU Invitational (5K) with a time of 18:27.6. Melius finished 46th in the AAC Championship with a time of 22:19 in the 6K and closed the season in 57th among 150 total runners in the NCAA South Central Regional (6K) with a time of 22:43.
LSU's Eric Coston was named the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, with LSU's Davis Bove earning Freshman of the Year honors and McNeese's Henry Kiplagat named Newcomer of the Year. Loyola's Bryiana Richardson was named the 2019 Coach of the Year.
UNO's Arina Kelschukova was named Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year, while LSU's Adele Broussard and McNeese's Marta Lukijaniuk earned Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors, respectively. LSU's Houston Franks was named the 2019 Coach of the Year.
