
Lewis Selected by the Cleveland Browns in the 2019 NFL Draft

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University cornerback Donnie Lewis Jr. was selected as the seventh pick in seventh round (221 overall) by the Cleveland Browns in the 2019 NFL Draft Saturday afternoon.

Lewis' selection marks the third consecutive season a Green Wave student-athlete has been taken in the NFL Draft. He also becomes the 146th Tulane player chosen in the NFL Draft in program history.Â

Lewis is the first Green Wave player to be selected in this year's NFL Draft.

As a senior in 2018, Lewis established himself as one of the league's best cornerbacks as he led The American and ranked third nationally in passes defended, averaging 1.7 per game at the end of the regular season. He also had a team-leading three interceptions and ranked fifth on the team in tackles with 54.Â

Following the regular season, Lewis was honored by the conference for the second time in his career as he was named All-American Athletic Conference Second Team. As a junior in 2017, the Baton Rouge native was named Honorable Mention.

Lewis rejoins former teammate and current Browns running back Dontrell Hilliard, who signed with Cleveland last season.
