Rotich Named LSWA Cross Country Runner of the Year; Others Honored
Jul 6, 2019 | Cross Country, Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane track & field and cross country athletes were named All-Louisiana 13 times and Emmanuel Rotich was named the men's Cross Country Runner of the Year for Louisiana when the Louisiana Sports Writers Associate (LSWA) announced its annual honors on Saturday night.
Rotich earned All-Louisiana recognition in three different events on the track (1500, 5K, 3K steeplechase) and also ran the fastest 8K cross country time this season. For that honor, the LSWA named him its Cross Country Runner of the Year.
During cross country season, Rotich won the conference championship for the third straight year and also earned a trip to the NCAA Championship race for the third straight year.
Also earning All-Louisiana honors from the LSWA was freshman Evans Kipchumba, who had the fourth-fastest cross country 8K time of the year. That mark earned him Freshman of the Year status from the LSWA as well.
Besides Rotich and Kipchumba, eight other Tulane athletes were placed on All-Louisiana teams for having a top-three mark in the state this year: Carlos Zervigon (10K), Bridgid Selfors (10K), Mckenzie Melius (3K steeplechase), Rebekah Markel (pole vault) and the quartet of Maya Harewood, Tahja Mitchell, Louise Jones and Kyah Loyd (4x400 relay).
