Tulane Welcomes the Saints to Yulman Stadium
Aug 5, 2019 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – Having guests over at your place is always fun, especially when it's the city's professional football team that stops by.
On Sunday in front over 12,000 fans, the Tulane University football team welcomed the New Orleans Saints to Yulman Stadium.
According to Saints head coach Sean Payton, the Black and Gold's visit to Uptown could not have come at a better time, as the team gets geared up their first scrimmage of the NFL's preseason on Friday.

"I think (doing) this every year is a real good changeup," Payton said. "I think it's good for the fans and for us."
The Saints are no strangers to the Uptown area of New Orleans, as the team called Tulane Stadium their home from 1967-74 before moving into the Superdome in 1975.
Since 1967, Tulane and the Saints have shared a special bond, as New Orleans' college and professional football teams. This Friday the entire Green Wave football team will be out in full force to support its cross-town neighbor, as it will attend the Saints-Vikings preseason matchup.
"We've tried to in our 13 years really celebrate and pay attention to those who came before us," Payton said. "I think the (Tom and Gayle) Bensons have done a great job of really creating that culture for our alumni, not just our current players. There's a number of reasons it makes sense to be back here."

Fans converged on Uptown Sunday afternoon, as the Saints held their annual Black and Gold fan fest on Brown Field adjacent from the Reilly Center.
Following the festivities on Brown Field, fans made their way into Yulman Stadium where they greeted the Saints and packed the East stands.
"The facility is fantastic," Payton said. "You get a sense that the crowd is right on you here."
The Saints' scrimmage at Yulman Stadium also could not have come at a better time for the Green Wave football team, as the team had Sunday off from fall camp. Tulane resumes preseason camp action on Monday.

Tulane opens the 2019 season on Thursday, August 29 at home against FIU with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The Green Wave are coming off a memorable 2018 campaign that was highlighted by a win in the AutoNation Cure Bowl and an American Athletic Conference West Division Co-Championship.
