Ben's Bowl Blog: Living the Fort Worth Life and Giving Back
Jan 1, 2020 | Football
Happy New Year Green Wave Nation!
We are on to our second day here in Fort Worth and the bowl activities are in full swing. Fort Worth, Texas has been a great host city for this game, and the Tulane Football team has settled in to make it our home away from home. New Year's Eve was the perfect time for us to drop into the Fort Worth community, as the city puts on a great celebration in their downtown area. There were multiple stages set up downtown that featured multiple genres of music to suit everyone's tastes.
As the clock struck midnight, there was a lazer light show presentation complete with fireworks. While the team may have been away from their families for this special holiday, Fort Worth put on a great show to ensure everyone had a great time.
On New Years Day, however, the team got back to work. Bright and early, players met to study and master the game plan for Southern Miss. The bowl hotel is a great facility with ample meeting space, making the transition from NOLA to Fort Worth seamless. After meetings, the team bused to Kennedale High School to hold practice, home of Tulane DB Larry Brooks. The full contact session was just, if not more, intense than our normal Wednesday sessions in Yulman Stadium. Our team looked sharp, and took a large step forward towards the game this Saturday.
After practice, a group of players went to a bowl event to help feed the hungry. Bowl games often provide great opportunities for community service, a great way to help serve the towns and cities that players take over for bowl week. Both Tulane and Southern Miss players participated in this event for a great cause.
Finally, we finished the day with the Armed Forces Bowl Gift Suite. This event is a way for the bowl to thank the players involved by giving them a gift of their appreciation. The Armed Forces Bowl uses a gift suite format, this is a great way for players to be able to pick out the gifts they want, rather than a standardized gift package.
Tomorrow's schedule is even busier for the wave, highlighted by the final practice of the 2019-20 football campaign. Stay tuned to Ben's Bowl Blog for the latest updates!
As always, ROLL WAVE!
