
No. 20 Beach Volleyball Goes 1-1 Friday to Open New Orleans Invitational

NEW ORLEANS — The No. 20 Tulane beach volleyball team went 1-1 on Friday, sweeping Louisiana Monroe after falling to Texas A&M Corpus Christi (2-3) at the Digs Volleyball Complex to open the weekend in the New Orleans Invitational.
"Our team battled today on another gorgeous day for beach volleyball," head coach Eyal Zimet said. "I am proud of our players for the way we responded after a tight loss earlier in the day. We look to keep growing every weekend and our focus turns to two more contests tomorrow. Looking forward to another great effort, grit and controlled intensity from each one of our players."
Senior Tarin Mergener and freshman Kendall Peters went 2-0 on the sand, defeating Texas A&M Corpus Christi (21-13, 21-17) from the No. 2 position before also beating Louisiana Monroe (21-11, 21-15) from the No. 1 spot.
Also going 2-0 on the day on court four was junior Addison Hermstad and freshman Samantha Mehlman, notching wins over Texas A&M Corpus Christi (21-9, 21-17) before defeating Louisiana Monroe (21-16, 21-7 scores).
Juniors Rio Frohoff and Gabriella Becerra helped Tulane get started in the sweep over Louisiana Monroe, beating the team with 21-17 and 21-13 scores from the No. 5 position.
Seniors Kaylie McHugh and Eva Torruella came back to win their second match of the day on court two, defeating Louisiana Monroe 21-9, 21-10.
The Green Wave are back in action on Saturday, taking on Texas A&M Kingsville at 2 p.m. and host UNO at 4 p.m.
