Navy 27, Tulane 24 - Postgame Notes

TEAM NOTES
- Tulane appeared on ABC for the first time in 40 years. The last time the Green Wave was on ABC was during the 1980 season opener against Southern Miss.
- This was the first time a game was aired on ABC in Yulman Stadium history.
- The Tulane-Navy matchup marked the 25th all-time meeting between the two teams.
- The Green Wave fell to 12-12-1 all-time against Navy.
- Tulane's last four matchups with Navy have been decided by three points or less.Â
- Tulane fell to 71-51-4 all-time in home openers.
- Tulane jumped out to a 24-0 lead, but was held scoreless in the second half. Navy outscored the Green Wave 27-0 in the second half. The Green Wave have not been held scoreless in a half since their 2019 matchup at Auburn.Â
- Team captains for today's game were S Chase Kuerschen, DL De'Andre Williams, WR Jacob Robertson, RB Stephon Huderson and WR Jaetavian Toles.Â
- Redshirt junior OL Joey Claybrook carried the No. 18 flag in honor of Devon Walker.Â
- With the loss, head coach Willie Fritz fell to 217-102-1 all-time.
OFFENSIVE NOTES
- The Green Wave offensive starters were QB Keon Howard, RB Tyjae Spears, TE Tyrick James, WR Phat Watts, WR Jacob Robertson Jr., WR Duece Watts, OL Sincere Haynesworth, OL Josh Remetich, OL Corey Dublin, OL Trey Tuggle and OL Joey Claybrook. Â
- Dublin made his 40th straight start. He has never missed a start in his collegiate career.Â
- The Green Wave have now surpassed 100 yards rushing in 55 straight games.Â
- Tulane finished with 265 yards rushing and have now rushed for over 250 yards in eight of their last 17 games
- Spears finished with a career-high 119 yards on 18 carries. He is the third freshman running back since 2001 to rush for 100 yards or more twice in a season.Â
- Spears became the first player since Corey Dauphine (2018) to rush for over 100 yards in back-to-back games.
- Howard completed passes to eight different players.Â
- Junior Phat Watts had his first career touchdown, as he scored on a three-yard rush in the second quarter.
- Tight end Tyrick James finished with a team-high 38 yards receiving.
- Redshirt sophomore Cameron Carroll tied a career high with two rushing touchdowns. He now has four rushing touchdowns on the year.
- Last week against South Alabama, Carroll rushed for a pair of scores.
DEFENSIVE NOTES
- The Green Wave defensive starters were DL Patrick Johnson, DL De'Andre Williams, DL Cameron Sample, DL Jeffery Johnson, LB Noah Seiden, LB Kevin Henry, LB Marvin Moody, CB Jaylon Monroe, CB Kyle Meyers, S Larry Brooks and S Chase Kuerschen.
- Moody led the way defensively for the Green Wave, as he posted a career-high 11.0 tackles. He also logged a career-high 3.0 tackles for loss. The last time a Tulane player had 10.0-plus tackles was when Lawrence Graham had 10 stops back on Oct. 26, 2019 against Navy.Â
- Senior defensive linemen Cameron Sample was second on the team with 8.0 tackles.Â
- Tulane's defensive unit held Navy to just 59 total yards in the first half.Â
SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
Redshirt senior Merek Glover connected on a 22-yard field goal in the first half.Â
Junior punter Ryan Wright had five punts for 182 yards (36.4 yard average).
