
Tulane Hosts South Alabama for a 4 p.m. Tipoff on Saturday

TULANE VS. SOUTH ALABAMA NOTES
NEW ORLEANS –Tulane University women's basketball team will go for its first 4-0 start since the 2014-15 season as it hosts South Alabama on Saturday inside the Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. Tipoff between the Green Wave and the Jaguars is set for 4 p.m.

The Green Wave's matchup with the Jaguars will be aired live on ESPN+. Fans can watch the game live by CLICKING HERE. Fans also can listen to the contest live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH with Gus Kattengell or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This will be the 22nd meeting all-time between Tulane and South Alabama. The Jaguars hold a 12-9 advantage over the Wave in the series. Tulane won the last matchup against USA last season on December 1, 2020, 77-73 in Mobile, Alabama.

In her 28th year at the helm of the Green Wave, head coach Lisa Stockton enters the matchup with a 5-1 record against USA during her time in Uptown.

This season, Stockton's staff welcomes back 10 letterwinners, four newcomers and four starters, including All-American Athletic Conference honoree Krystal Freeman who averaged 12.3 points and 7.8 rebounds for the Green Wave last season. Tulane brings back 67.8 percent of its scoring and 82.3 percent of its rebounding from the 2020-21 season.

All five starters for the Olive and Blue are averaging at least eight points per contest through three games this season. Three of those starters are averaging double digits in scoring as redshirt senior Moon Ursin leads the team averaging 18.3 and nine rebounds per game. Dynah Jones follows with 16.7 points per contest while Krystal Freeman averages a double-double with 13.7 points and 10.3 boards.

Tulane is coming off an 88-78 double-overtime win over TCU on Wednesday. Three players posted a double-double in the contest for the first time in program history. Ursin led the team with a career-high 28 points and 10 rebounds. Freeman added her 24th career double-double posting 15 points and 12 boards and Mia Heide recorder the first double-double of her career finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

In the first two contests of the season, the Green Wave defeated Alabama 69-66 on the road on Sunday, Nov. 14, and Southeastern Louisiana 66-58 in the season opener on Nov. 9. Four of the Wave's five starters posted double figures in the scoring column in each of the first two games of the season.

The Jaguars enter the game 2-1 on the season with wins over Auburn-Montgomery and Mobile. In USA's last outing the Jaguars defeated Auburn-Montgomery 70-49 at home on Monday. Three players scored in double figures for the Jaguars in the win over the Warhawks as senior Mahogany Vaught led the team with 16 points. In the Jaguars only road contest of the season, USA lost 64-45 at Rutgers on Nov. 12.

South Alabama's roster included 11 newcomers and returns just one starter and two letterwinners from last season. The Jaguars were picked to finish eighth in the Sun Belt Conference preseason coaches poll after finishing 13-13 overall a season ago.Â
Up next, the Green Wave will travel to face in-state foe LSU in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, Nov. 23. Tipoff against the Tigers is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be aired on SECN+.
