NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane University sailing team finished eighth at the College Sailing Team Race Nationals on Thursday in Annapolis, MD.Â
Â
The team completed the regatta with a record of seven wins and nine losses.Â
Â
"It was a tough way to end the championship today," head coach Charles Higgins said. "Our last race, ultimately, was going to decide which team finished seventh-ninth overall. We had our chances for sure, but just a few too many mistakes proved costly in the end."
Â
Marcus Huttunen, Cameron Giblin and Thad Lettsome were the Green Wave skippers, and Gillian Perrell,Lydia Brown, Ciara Rodriguez-Horan, Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez were the crews.Â
Â
Tulane's two victories on day two were both 2-3-4 wins over the US Merchant Marine Academy and St. Mary's college of Maryland.
"While we know we could have performed better, we have to remind ourselves that we should be proud that we finished as one of the top 10 teams in the nation in this discipline," Higgins said.
Â
The Naval Academy took home first place, winning 17 races and losing only two.Â
"Team Racing is an exceptionally hard discipline to excel at and, with more experience from this young team, the future is particularly bright for us," Higgins concluded. "I'm very excited to watch us continue to improve going into next year."
Â
Up next: Tulane's final competition of the year is the ICSA Coed Championship on June 7th and 8th in Annapolis.Â
