Tulane Athletics Enhances Sports Performance Department with New Hires
Jul 14, 2021 | General
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Athletics further enhanced the department's focus on student-athlete welfare today with the announcement of two new positions in the sports performance area. Amanda Robinson will become the department's first Associate Athletics Director for Sports Performance while Chappell Evans will be promoted to Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Sports Medicine.
In her newly created position, Robinson will fully integrate the department's strength and conditioning, athletic training, nutrition and behavioral health units to ensure the optimal health and peak performance for Tulane's student-athletes in competition.
Robinson comes to Tulane after spending the past nine years at Florida State University. Since 2017, she has managed the daily medical operations for the men's basketball team, provided mentorship for Sports Medicine Department graduate assistants and interns, and coordinated various Sports Medicine staff development initiatives. She has been a member of each of the Seminoles' last four men's basketball NCAA Tournament teams in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021. Prior to working with the men's basketball team, Robinson served four seasons with Florida State's women's volleyball and women's golf teams.
"I am thrilled to welcome Amanda to our department, as our first Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance," Deputy AD for Student Services Charvi Greer said. "I'm particularly excited to have this position in place, as I believe from a holistic standpoint, this position touches all the elements that ensure success for our student-athletes, so it was critical that we found someone that could tie all of these areas together. With Amanda's guidance and Chappell leading the way in our sports medicine department, our student-athletes are posed for peak performance on and off the field of play."
Evans joined the Tulane athletics department in August 2017 after spending four years at Samford University. During her time with the Green Wave, she has overseen the direct care of the women's basketball program while managing nine athletic trainers serving over 200 student-athletes. She is a member of the Tulane Athletic Care Team (TACT) and served on several COVID-19 committees over the past year. In her new role, Evans will have oversight of the sports medicine department, supervising all eleven athletic trainers serving all of Tulane's student-athletes.
The departments within the sports performance area (strength and conditioning, athletic training, nutrition and behavioral health) will continue to further expand with staff members, equipment, software and space to serve student-athlete welfare needs in a holistic manner.
