JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The Tulane golf team secured its first tournament win since Sept. 16, 2017, at the Seabest Jacksonville Classic on Tuesday. The Green Wave took the top place on the leader board with a combined team score of 870. Â
"Really proud of the ladies today and how they handled themselves" head golf coach Stew Burke said. "The course played extremely tough, and we stuck to our plan and stayed patient even when we faced adversity. This week was a total team effort with everyone shooting at least one round of par or under. Our birthday girl Hanna Liu finished 2nd individually to round off a great week. We are ready to be back in New Orleans this evening to rest up before we start our preparations for our final event in Denver, CO next month."Â
Junior Hanna Liu was the consistent front runner for the Green Wave and finished second overall in the tournament. In the final round she shot par through the first four holes. After two bogeys', Liu bounced back with two birdies on the back nine. She ended the day with a score of two-over par at 74 and finished the tournament with a total card of 215. Â
Teammate Carlota Palacios was not far behind, as she tied for seventh place. Palacios carded par in the first round and shot two-under at 70 in the second round. In the final round she carded a 77 for a combined score of 219. Â
Redshirt juniors Hannah Rose Bruxvoort and sophomore Daozeng Liu both finished tied for 12th place with combined scores of 221. Both individuals had their strongest showings in the second round as Liu carded a three-under par 69 and Bruxvoort carded par at 72.Â
Rounding out the team total was Sandra Vazquez who finished tied for 22nd with a total score of 226. Â
The Green wave took the tournament four strokes ahead of the host team Jacksonville. Â
Next on the schedule for the Olive and Blue is the Ron Moor Intercollegiate at Highland Ranch in Denver Oct. 8-10. The weekend long tournament will be the final event of the 2021 fall season. Â
