Wave Garners Slew of Monday Awards

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane football team received a bevy of individual awards on Monday, following Friday's 27-24 overtime win at Houston.
Linebacker Nick Anderson matched his career high with 14 tackles — the most by an American Athletic Conference player — and delivered a key defensive play to lead the Green Wave. His forced fumble midway through the third quarter was returned for a touchdown by Jadon Canady to break what had been a 7-7 tie. For his efforts, Anderson was named AAC and Louisiana Sports Writers Association Defensive Player of the Week.
Fellow linebacker Dorian Williams also racked up a season-high 11 tackles, to go with 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack in the victory. He was also bestowed East-West Shrine Bowl Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday.
Finally, Kai Horton, Tulane's third-string quarterback, was pressed into duty on the team's second series Friday evening. He finished the game 11-for-21 for 132 yards with three touchdown passes and no interceptions. He got Tulane on the board first with a 13-yard toss to Duece Watts in the second quarter, but saved his best work for the contest's final minutes. He drove the team 75 yards in two minutes, 25 seconds and tied the game with a three-yard pass to Tyrick James with 39 seconds left in regulation. He then delivered the walk-off triumph with a 10-yard strike in the corner of the end zone to running back Tyjae Spears in overtime. On Monday, Horton was named to the AAC Honor Roll and received an honorable mention nod for the Tyler Rose Award.
The Green Wave (4-1 overall, 1-0 AAC) will be back in action Saturday when ECU (3-2, 1-1) visits for a 2:30 p.m. kick in a game that will be carried on ESPNU.
