
No. 19 Tulane Earns 27-13 Road Victory Over Tulsa

TULSA, OK – The No. 19 nationally ranked Tulane football team (8-1, 5-0 AAC) used a strong rushing attack, that totaled 357 yards on the ground, to run over Tulsa (3-6, 1-4 AAC) on Saturday at H.A. Chapman Stadium by a 27-13 score.
Tyjae Spears led the offensive charge for Tulane in running for 157 yards and a touchdown. Shaadie Clayton-Johnson picked up 106 yards. Iverson Celestine totaled 40 yards. Michael Pratt ran for 36 yards. Pratt had an effective day in going 11-for-19 for 125 yards and two passing touchdowns. Duece Watts recorded two catches for 42 yards. Shae Wyatt had a catch for 20 yards and a touchdown. Tyrick James totaled four catches for 39 yards and a touchdown.
Dorian Williams was all over the field with 13 tackles, two sacks and two stops for loss. Nick Anderson also had an outstanding performance in picking up 13 tackles, a sack and a stop for loss. Jarius Monroe totaled nine tackles. Larry Brooks had seven stops.
Tulane's offense gained 482 total yards with 357 coming on the ground. It was the highest rushing total for the program since getting 429 against Southern Miss in 2020. The defense limited Tulsa to 257 total yards, including 146 yards passing. The team had four sacks on the afternoon.
Tulane wasted no time scoring in the opening quarter as the team marched down the field on the opening drive and dented the scoreboard on a 10-yard pitch and catch from Pratt to James. The drive covered seven plays, 78-yards and took 2:17 to make the score 7-0 Green Wave. Tulsa drew to within four on their first possession on a 46-yard field goal from Zack Long. Tulane extended the lead back to seven as Valentino Ambrosio hit a 20-yard field goal to complete the 11 play, 78-yard drive. The Green Wave scored again midway through the second quarter on a 34-yard carry by Spears to finish off a nine play, 88-yard drive and put Tulane up 17-3 with 6:10 remaining in the half. Tulsa, after an interception just before the half, drew to within a touchdown of the lead on the 28-yard touchdown pass from Braylon Braxton to JuanCarlos Santana to put the score at 17-10 going into the break. After the half the Green Wave scored first as Pratt connected with Wyatt to finish off the nine play, 87-yard drive and give Tulane a two-touchdown advantage, 24-10. After a 40-yard made field goal from Tulsa, Tulane scored the final points of the game on a made field goal from Ambrosio from 33 yards out to make the final margin 27-13.
Next the Tulane football team, returns home to host No. 25 UCF on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Yulman Stadium. That game will be carried by ESPN2.
Notes: The win makes the Green Wave 8-1 and 5-0 in the AAC this season…The 5-0 mark in the AAC is the best-ever start for the team since joining the American…The overall record is the best for the program since 1998…It is the 11th time the program is 8-1 or better (2022, 1998, 1973, 1948, 1939, 1934, 1931, 1930, 1929, 1925, 1924)..The program will finish the year with eight or more wins for the 14th time (2022, 2002, 1998, 1979, 1973, 1970, 1948, 1939, 1934, 1931, 1930, 1929, 1925, 1924)…The win runs Tulane's current win streak to five games…It is the first time since 1998 that team has won five or more consecutive games and only the 16th time in school history (2022 {5}, 1998 {12}, 1980 {5}, 1974 ({5}, 1973 {6}, 1950 {5}, 1948 {8}, 1939 {5}, 1934 {6}, 1931 {11}, 1930 {7}, 1929 {9}, 1925 {8}, 1924 {5}, 1919 {6}, 1908 {6}, 1900 {5}…Michael Pratt has now thrown at least one touchdown pass in 29 of his 30 career games…The game was the fourth time this season and the third straight contest that Tyjae Spears has gone over 100 yards rushing as he ran for 157 yards…It was the 10th time he has topped the century mark on the ground in his career (2x in 2020, 4x in 2021 and 4x in 2022)… Shaadie Clayton-Johnson went over 100 yards on the ground for the first time in his Tulane career with 106….Tulane has now run for 100 yards as a team in 81 of the last 85 games…The program ran for 357 in the game…It was the 49th time that the program has topped 300 yards rushing and the first time since going for 305 against Memphis last season (11/27/21)….The 357 yards rushing was the 16th time that program has run for 350 or more yards in a contest and the first time since 2020 when the program had 427 against Southern Miss….The 357 yards rushing is the 13th highest in the program's history.
