
Bowling Announces the Signing of Juanelyz Solla and Emma Fetterman

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane's head bowling coach Hayley Veitch announced the addition of Juanelyz Solla and Emma Fetterman to the 2023 signing class.
Solla will head Uptown from San Juan, Puerto, Rico. She currently attends and will be graduating from Dorado Academy in Dorado, Puerto Rico in the spring of 2023. At Dorado, she has been a member of the Student Council, Interact Club and the Health and Safety Club. Solla, who is also a member of the Puerto Rico Junior National Team, has been bowling for nine years and has a high sport league average of 182 and a USBC-sanctioned sport league average of 169. Her high game is a 268. In July 2015 at the Youth Open Championships, she placed seventh in the Singles U12 Girls Scratch and second in the Doubles U12 Scratch. At the Puerto Rico Pepsi Youth Championships in March 2017, she won the tournament and qualified for the Junior Gold. In July 2017 at the Junior Gold Championship, she finished 61st among all the U12 competitors. In school at Sagrado Corazon de Jesus from 2016-2019, she aided her team to four straight Catholic League Bowling Tournament titles, while also being named the Team Most Valuable Player (MVP). She won, was named the MVP and had the highest game average among all competitors at the Puerto Rico Pepsi Youth Championship U15 Girls Division in March 2019. Her victory also qualified her for the Junior Gold. She was invited and finished third overall at the Puerto Rico Junior Team tryouts in March 2022.Â

At the 2022 Junior Gold U18 Girls, she finished with an average of 172. She was invited to participate in the Puerto Rico Adult Team Trials in August 2022, where finished 12th overall with a 172 average. At the PBA Junior National Championship South Qualifier in August 2022, she made the cut, averaged 207 in match-play, and finished seventh overall with a total average of 195. She was invited and made the Puerto Rico Junior National Team in October 2022 by placing second overall. That team represented the country in CONCECABOL in the fall of 2022. At CONCECABOL, the team won the Silver Medal with an average of 200 and then the Gold Medal at Festival CONCECABOL with an average of 200. In singles play, Solla won the bronze medal with an average of 187 and the bronze medal at CONCECABOL in all events. Solla is also an active table tennis player that helped her team win the event in 2022 at the PRHSAA's (Puerto Rico High School Athletic Alliance) Annual Tournament. She is also an active member of the community that has helped distribute food to homeless people, purchased and distributed school materials to low-income families, visited the elderly at retirement homes, taught young children how to bowl through clinics, assisted wheelchair users set up a bowling league and participated in beach cleanup activities.
"I have only recently become acquainted with Juanelyz and her family, but I immediately got the sense of passion and drive towards the sport of bowling that she possesses," explained Coach Veitch. "Her inner drive to succeed is not something that can easily be taught. When I witnessed her internal drive and passion, I knew adding her to the team was a no-brainer. She will be the second lefthanded bowler on the current team and I am confident that her and Mia will compliment each other well. Juanelyz also has recently had international success bowling for the national team in Puerto Rico which will be an asset to the team."

Fetterman comes to the Green Wave from Skikellamy High School in Sunbury, Pennsylvania after posting an impressive prep career prior to the start of her senior
campaign. She has been the Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference girl's average leader in each of her first three seasons including setting the freshman average record for the league. She posted the highest female high school average in the state for the 2021-22 season with a 221. She has been named the Shikellamy Female Bowler of the Year every season, while also leading her program to a conference championship in each of the last three years. At the 2020 Eastern Pennsylvania Regional Singles Championships (EPRSC) she was the runner-up. In 2021 at the EPRSC, she placed sixth. Fetterman followed that up with the 2022 EPRSC championship. At the 2020 Eastern Pennsylvania Regional Team Championship, she aided the squad to a championship. In 2021 with Fetterman leading the charge, the program placed second. In 2022 the squad and Fetterman were semi-finalist in the event. At the 2021 Pennsylvania High School State Single Championships, she placed eighth. Fetterman followed that up by earning 12th in the 2022. In the Pennsylvania High School State Team Championships, she aided the team to a championship in 2021 and a runner-up finish in 2022. Fetterman has made the Pennsylvania High School All-Tournament Team five times at the regional and state levels.

At the Youth Bowling level, she has had three Pennsylvania Junior Bowlers Tour (PJBT) Girls Series Scratch Championships and three runner-up finishes. Additionally, she has three 299 games plus a high three-game series average of 763. Fetterman is a two-time PJBT female average leader and was the 2021-22 season girl's points champion. She has been the female average leader, which includes adult and youth, in the home association category the last two seasons. Fetterman has been the youth female average leader in her respective age division the last nine years. She is a seven-time Pennsylvania Pepsi State Tournament qualifier and a three-time Pennsylvania Pepsi District 6 Champion. Among her many other accomplishments are earning the 2019 York-Adams USBC Youth Singles Tournament Championship, being the 2020 and the 2021 Shikellamy Shoot-Out Champion, earning a third-place finish at the 2022 PBA Junior East Region National Qualifier and being a six-time Junior Gold Qualifier.

Fetterman is also a standout in the classroom and currently ranks No. 1 in her senior class at Shikellamy High School with a weighted GPA average of 101.19%. She is also currently taking dual enrollment courses at Bloomsburg University of PA, while balancing being a member of the National Junior Honors Society and National Honors Society and serving as class treasurer for her high school class.
She is also an active member of the community that served as a volunteer to cleanup Susquehanna River.

I was drawn to both her calm confident demeanor and her bowling talents on the lanes. I know she has the determination and drive to compete well at the collegiate level and I can't wait for Emma to begin her journey in August. Â She and her parents will be great additions to the bowling team and to the Tulane Athletics family."
Solla and Fetterman will arrive in New Orleans in the fall of 2023.
