
Football’s Prince Pines and Kanan Ray Earn Places On CSC’s Academic All-American Team

AUSTIN, Texas – The Tulane football program had a pair of players, Prince Pines and Kanan Ray, honored nationally as members of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American ® Division I Football Team, the organization announced this morning.
Pines, an offensive lineman from Baton Rouge, is a graduate student at Tulane studying Health & Wellness that earn a CSC First Team All-American selection. Last month, he was voted a CSC Academic All-District selection after putting together a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average in his first semester on campus. He also had an outstanding season on the field in earning First Team All-American Athletic Conference honors by the league and also being named a Second Team selection to Phil Steele's 2022 American Athletic All-Conference squad. He played and started all 13 games at offensive guard for Tulane
Ray, an offensive line from Chatsworth, California, is a graduate student at Tulane studying Sport Studies that earned CSC Second Team All-American honors. Last month, he was voted a CSC Academic All-District selection after putting together a cumulative grade-point average in his first semester on campus. He played and started each of the first eight games of the season at offensive guard for Tulane.
The two helped paved the way for a Tulane offense that is averaging 35.2 points a game. The offense is putting up 197.1 yards rushing and 236.8 passing yards a contest. Tulane has topped the 20-point barrier in 12 of the team's 13 games with a high of 59 points against SMU.
The two are the first Tulane football players to be voted Academic All-Americans since 2015 when Sam Scofield was a Second Team choice.
Overall, Tulane now has 10 Academic All-Americans in the school's history (Joe LaSage – 1961 – 1st team, David Hebert – 1970 – 3rd team, David Hebert – 1971 – 1st team, Gerry Sheridan – 1978 – 2nd team, Roch Hontas – 1979 – 2nd team, Andre Anderson – 2009 – 1st team, Sam Scofield – 2013 – 2nd team, Sam Scofield – 2015 – 2nd team, Prince Pines – 2022 – 1st Team and Kanan Ray – 2022 – 2nd Team).
Tulane's two selections are the most in the American Athletic Conference (2 – Tulane, 1 – Cincinnati & 1 – Tulsa) this season and represent 2/3 of the total from the state of Louisiana (LSU – 1)
The College Sports Communicators, former the College Sports Information Director of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The four Academic All-District ® honorees now advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December.
