NEW ORLEANS – Following becoming bowl eligible for the fifth time in the last six years with the victory against North Texas over the weekend, the Tulane football team (6-1, 3-0 AAC) moved up in the national rankings. The program moved up to No. 22 in the Associated Press (AP) Poll and No. 23 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, both polls recently announced.
The program defeated North Texas by a 35-28 score at home on Saturday in a Homecoming matchup. Tulane is 18-3 in its last 21 games. The 18 wins the last two seasons is tied for the third-most in the country along with Washington, Alabama and Ohio State.
Tulane started the season ranked in both the preseason polls at No. 24 in the AP and No. 23 in the Coaches' Poll. The program stayed at No. 24 in the AP Poll and moved up to No. 22 in the Coaches' Poll prior to the meeting with then No. 20/20 Ole Miss. After falling 37-20 the Rebels, the program fell out of the rankings although they continued to receive votes in each of the next four polls before again being nationally ranked last week at No. 23 in the AP Poll and No. 24 in the Coaches Poll.
Michael Pratt led the offensive attack for Tulane against the Mean Green as he accounted for 264 yards in offense and four touchdowns. His 19-yard touchdown run in the final three minutes of the game proved to be the difference. Makhi Hughes went over 100-yards rushing for the third straight game as he totaled 121 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Alex Bauman hauled in pair of touchdown passes for the Green Wave.
