
Football’s Michael Pratt Named As Official Candidate for the Davey O’Brien Award

Fort Worth, TX – Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt has been named as an official candidate for the 2023 Davey O'Brien Award, the organization announced this afternoon. He is listed as one of 35 candidates for the award.
This year's class includes: Drew Allar (Penn State), Carson Beck (Georgia), Davis Brin (Georgia Southern), Brady Cook (Missouri), Jayden Daniels (LSU), JT Daniels (Rice), Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss), Quinn Ewers (Texas), Dequan Finn (Toledo), Dillon Gabriel (Oklahoma), Darren Grainger (Georgia State), Frank Harris (UTSA), Sam Hartman (Notre Dame) Mikey Keene (Fresno State), Zac Larrier (Air Force), Drake Maye (North Carolina), Grayson McCall (Coastal Carolina), J.J. McCarthy (Michigan), Jordan McCloud (James Madison), Kyle McCord (Ohio State), Graham Mertz (Florida), Jalen Milroe (Alabama), Bo Nix (Oregon), Michael Penix Jr. (Washington), Michael Pratt (Tulane), Austin Reed (Western Kentucky), Kaidon Salter (Liberty), Shedeur Sanders (Colorado), Preston Stone (SMU), Taulia Tagovailoa (Maryland), Jordan Travis (Florida State), DJ Uiagalelei (Oregon State), Tyler Van Dyke (Miami), Cameron Ward (Washington State) and Caleb Williams (USC).
The next step in the process will be to select the award's 16 semifinalists from the 35 quarterbacks. The semifinalists will be chosen based on voting from the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee as well as bonus ballots awarded from the first round of the Davey O'Brien Award.
To participate in the Fan Vote, fans must like the original Davey O'Brien Award post highlighting their quarterback. The first round is now open until Friday, Nov. 10 at noon. The semifinalists will be named on Tuesday, Nov. 14, Looking ahead, the three finalists will be tabbed on Tuesday, Nov. 28, while the winner will be announced live on Friday, Dec. 8, on the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The 47th Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner honoring the winner will be held Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
This season, Pratt is 102-for-143 (71.8 percent) for 1,384 yards with 14 touchdown passes and an efficiency rating of 180.7. He is also second on the team with his 59 attempts for 231 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Pratt leads the conference and is placed ninth nationally in completion percentage. He became Tulane's all-time leader in career touchdown passes earlier this season and has extended his career total to 82 passing scores. Pratt also moved into the top-10 on Tulane's all-time touchdowns accounted for list with his 28 (27 rushing and 1 receiving).
Tulane's defense leads the conference and is ranked fourth nationally in rushing yards allowed per game at 78.9. The squad also ranks fourth in the conference and 24th in the country in sacks at 2.75 per game. The program leads the AAC in turnovers gained at 15. Individually, Lance Robinson leads the conference and is placed sixth in the country with his four interceptions. Darius Hodges and Patrick Jenkins are ranked second and sixth in the conference in sacks, respectfully. Valentino Ambrosio leads the conference with his 1.5 field goals per game. He also ranks third in the league in field goal percentage (80.0). Lawrence Keys III is placed fourth in the AAC in yards per catch at 17.79. Keys is also seventh in the league with his six touchdowns scored. Chris Brazzell II is placed sixth in the league in yards per catch (17.70). Makhi Hughes leads the conference in rushing with 772 yards. He is fifth in the league with five rushing touchdowns.
This week the No. 21/No. 21 Tulane football team stays on the road to take on East Carolina (1-7, 0-4 AAC) at 2:30 p.m. in a game that will also be shown live on ESPNU on Saturday, Nov. 4.
