
Football Up To No. 17 In Both Polls This Week

NEW ORLEANS –  After securing the program's eighth straight victory in the win over Tulsa over the weekend, the Tulane football team (9-1, 6-0 AAC) continued to rise up in the national rankings. The program is now ranked at No. 17 in both the Associated Press (AP) Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll, both polls recently announced.
The program defeated Tulsa by a 24-22 score at home on Saturday. Tulane is 21-3 in its last 24 games. The 21 wins the last two season are tied for third-most in the country along with Ohio State and only behind Georgia – 25 and Michigan – 23. It is also the first time in school history that Tulane has won 20 or more games over a two-season period of time.
Tulane started the season ranked in both the preseason polls at No. 24 in the AP and No. 23 in the Coaches' Poll. The program stayed at No. 24 in the AP Poll and moved up to No. 22 in the Coaches' Poll prior to the meeting with then No. 20/20 Ole Miss. After falling 37-20 the Rebels, the program fell out of the rankings although they continued to receive votes in each of the next four polls before again being nationally ranked on Oct. 15 at No. 23 in the AP Poll and No. 24 in the Coaches Poll. The program rose to 22 in the AP Poll and No. 23 in the Coaches Poll on Oct. 22, moved up to No. 21 on Oct. 29 and then No. 20 last week on Nov. 5.
Makhi Hughes led the offensive attack against the Golden Hurricane with his 131 yards rushing. It was his sixth straight game topping 100 yards on the ground and also took him over the 1,000 yard mark (1,008) this season. He became just the eighth different player and the first freshman to ever topped 1,000 rushing yard at Tulane. Michael Pratt was 16-for-29 for 194 yards and a touchdown. Bryce Bohanan hauled in four passes for 57 yards to lead the receiving unit. Shedro Louis electrified the crowd with his 100-yard kick return to start the second half. It was the eighth 100-yard kickoff return in school history and the first since 2003. Bailey Despanie led the defense with his eight tackles. Lance Robinson had seven tackles and three passes defended. Jarius Monroe totaled five tackles, a sack and an interception.
Tulane's defense leads the conference and is ranked fourth nationally in rushing yards allowed per game at 82.3. The squad also ranks fourth in the conference and 33rd in the country in sacks at 2.50 per game. The program ranks fifth in AAC in turnovers gained at 16. Individually, Lance Robinson leads the conference and is placed ninth in the country with his four interceptions. Darius Hodges and Patrick Jenkins are ranked fourth and seventh in the conference in sacks, respectfully. Ambrosio is placed second in the conference with his 1.50 field goals per game. He also ranks fourth in the league in field goal percentage (78.9). Lawrence Keys III leads the AAC in yards per catch at 18.15. Keys is also 10th in the league with his seven touchdowns scored. Jha'Quan Jackson is fifth in the conference in yards per reception at 17.54. Chris Brazzell II is placed 11th in the league in yards per catch (16.34). Makhi Hughes leads the conference in rushing with 1,008 yards. He is sixth in the league with six rushing touchdowns. Michael Pratt leads the conference with his 167.1 passing efficiency. He is third in the league in passing yards a completion at 13.37. Shedro Louis leads the league and ranks second in the country with his average of 31.5 yards a kick return.
This week the Tulane football team is on the road and travels to Boca Raton, Florida to take on Florida Atlantic on Saturday at 11 a.m. in game that will be shown on ESPN+
