
Football’s Shiel Wood Named Nominee for the 2023 Broyles Award

Little Rock, Arkansas - Â Tulane defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Shiel Wood has been named as a nominee for the 2023 Broyles Award, by the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation. The Broyles Award honors college football's top assistant coaches.
The 57 nominees in this year's class were selected from approximately 1,500 assistant coaches representing 131 FBS programs across the country. The Broyles Award selection process includes the Football Writers Association (FWAA), broadcasters, a college football Hall of Fame selection committee, and current college football coaches.

Tulane's defense leads the conference and is ranked fourth nationally in rushing yards allowed per game at 82.3. The program also leads the conference in interceptions with 11. The Green Wave is also placed second in total defense with 332.8. The squad also ranks fourth in the conference and 33rd in the country in sacks at 2.50 per game. The program ranks fifth in AAC in turnovers gained at 16. Individually, Lance Robinson leads the conference and is placed ninth in the country with his four interceptions. Darius Hodges and Patrick Jenkins are ranked fourth and seventh in the conference in sacks, respectfully.
This week the No. 23 CFP/No. 17 AP / No. 17 Coaches Tulane football team is on the road and travels to Boca Raton, Florida to take on Florida Atlantic on Saturday at 11 a.m. in game that will be shown on ESPN+
