Tulane Pushes #28 LSU but Falls 5-2
Feb 24, 2023 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane's Kristen Borland and Brooke Theis both recorded three-set victories but #28 LSU proved to be a bit too strong in the latter stages of singles action as the 28th-ranked Tigers defeated the host Green Wave 5-2 Friday afternoon at City Park Tennis Center.
LSU moved to 6-1 on the season, while Tulane dropped to 3-5.
The Green Wave stared strong in singles as the scores were tight on virtually every court. However, LSU powered back and secured the win with triumphs at Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5.
Borland won the first set tiebreaker 8-6, then dropped the second set, before finishing it off 6-3 in strong fashion. Theis, who is no stranger to three-set battles, won her first set 6-3, dropped the next one 4-6 and captured the third set tiebreaker in a 7-1 rout.
The Tigers swept the doubles action in all three matches.
The Green Wave is back home, a week from Friday, against Houston at 2 p.m. in another match that will be carried by ESPN+. Tulane's scheduled Sunday match against Louisiana has been postponed due to protocols within the Ragin' Cajuns program.
