NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Athletics hosted the TikTok Creator team for a workshop for student-athletes to learn how to get started on the social media platform and how to use the platform to build their brand. Nearly 100 Green Wave student-athletes participated in the workshop as Tulane was one of the first schools in the country to host the social platform for a workshop.
"It was a cool opportunity getting to learn about how to use TikTok just a little bit more, how we can really be creative on the app, and learning more about the specifics," men's basketball junior Sion James said.
In the workshop offered the Green Wave student-athletes were given the opportunity to gain knowledge about the platform's sports content section and learn the best practices and techniques to enhance their personal brands as well as strengthen the brand of Tulane Athletics.
"It was awesome just to be able to learn to be able to use TikTok. It's such a powerful platform and to be able to utilize that for our own good, especially with NIL," football senior Sincere Haynesworth stated.
The TikTok Creator team discussed sports trends, creative formats, and branding opportunities before breaking into groups for more in depth conversations. The breakout groups focused on getting started on TikTok for the student-athletes who are new to the platform and building your community for the student-athletes already creating content on the platform.
The student-athletes ended the workshop by competing in a content creation activity by working in groups to create their own TikTok.
"It was nice to learn some new tips and also it was very fun to work with people in the athletics department that I haven't worked with before to create my own TikTok at the end," said beach volleyball junior Ainsley Patrick.
"I feel like I really benefited from being here and so did everybody else," James said.
