
Football Places League-High 18 on All-American Athletic Conference Teams

IRVING, Texas – The Tulane football team (9-3, 7-1 AAC) earned a league-high 18 All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) selections on Tuesday.
The team's First Team All-Conference selections this year are Derrick Graham (offensive tackle), Shadre Hurst (offensive guard), Makhi Hughes (running back) and Patrick Jenkins (defensive line). It was a first time for Graham and Hurst, the second time for Hughes and the third career All-AAC selection for Jenkins.
Graham, in his first season at the school, has started all 12 games for Tulane at tackle and has helped the offense rank among the top five in the league in third down conversions (1st – 52.7), completion percentage (1st – 65.3), scoring offense (1st – 39.1), interceptions thrown (2nd – 5), red zone offense (2nd - 91.5), passing efficiency (2nd – 167.79),  rushing (3rd - 212.9), time of possession (3rd - 33:42), first downs (4th – 263) and passing yards per completions (4th – 14.51).The offense has scored 20+ points in 11 of the team's 12 games.
Hurst, in his second season as a starter, has started 11 games for Tulane at guard and has helped the offense rank among the top five in the league in third down conversions (1st – 52.7), completion percentage (1st – 65.3), scoring offense (1st – 39.1), interceptions thrown (2nd – 5), red zone offense (2nd - 91.5), passing efficiency (2nd – 167.79),  rushing (3rd - 212.9), time of possession (3rd - 33:42), first downs (4th – 263) and passing yards per completions (4th – 14.51).The offense has scored 20+ points in 11 of the team's 12 games. This was Hurst's first all-conference selection.
Hughes ranks second in the AAC in rushing with 1,306 yards on the ground. His rushing yards this season are the fifth-most in a single campaign by a Tulane runner. His 15 rushing scores places him third in the conference. Hughes' 17 total touchdowns scored this year are the third most in the league. He ran for 100+ yards on the ground in five of the team's eight conference contests. Hughes also was a First Team All-Conference selection last season.
Jenkins totaled 23 tackles, 6.5 stops for loss and tied for the team lead with 4.5 sacks this season. This was his second straight First Team All-Conference selection and third time that he has been chosen by the AAC with an end of the year All-Conference honor as he was a Second Team choice in 2022.
Tulane's AAC Second Team selections consist of Mario Williams (wide receiver), Josh Remetich (offensive guard), Vincent Murphy (center), Tyler Grubbs (linebacker), Sam Howard (linebacker), Bailey Despanie (safety), Micah Robinson (cornerback) and Rayshawn Pleasant (return specialist). This was the first All-AAC selection for Williams, Remetich, Murphy, Howard, Despanie, Robinson and Pleasant. Grubbs is being honored for the second time as he was a Third Team All-Conference selection last season.

Williams leads Tulane was his 48 catches for 831 yards. He also totaled four touchdowns and averaged 17.3 yards per reception with a long of 68 yards.
Remetich, is in his second full season as a starter and fourth overall campaign as part of the program, has started all 12 games for Tulane at guard and has helped the offense rank among the top five in the league in third down conversions (1st – 52.7), completion percentage (1st – 65.3), scoring offense (1st – 39.1), interceptions thrown (2nd – 5), red zone offense (2nd - 91.5), passing efficiency (2nd – 167.79),  rushing (3rd - 212.9), time of possession (3rd - 33:42), first downs (4th – 263) and passing yards per completions (4th – 14.51).The offense has scored 20+ points in 11 of the team's 12 games.

Grubbs, in his second season with the program, has started all 12 games for Tulane at linebacker. He leads the team with 53 tackles and ranks third on the squad with six tackles for loss. Grubbs also has three sacks, a pair of interceptions, a pass breakup and a forced fumble.
Howard, in his first season with the program, has started 11 of the team's 12 games at linebacker. He is placed second on the team with 43 tackles while totaling five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, an interception, a pass breakup and a school record five fumbles recovered.
Despanie, is in his fourth season with the program, has started all 12 games at safety for Tulane. He is third on the team with 41 tackles while totaling 2.5 stops for loss and a pass breakup.
Robinson, in his first year with the program, has started and played in all 12 games this season. He has totaled 23 tackles, two interceptions and a team-high six pass defended this season
Pleasant, is in his third season at Tulane, has started all 12 games for Tulane at cornerback. He has totaled 33 tackles, a tackle for loss, three pass breakups and an interception that he return for 100-yard touchdown. Pleasant also has returned eight kicks for 323 yards. He is averaging 40.4 yards per kick return and has two kick return touchdowns on the campaign. Pleasant leads the conference and is tied for the national league with his two kickoff return touchdowns. His average of 40.4 per kick return would be the national leader if he had enough attempts.
The Third Team All-AAC Tulane selections are Rashad Green (offensive tackle), Alex Bauman (tight end), Kameron Hamilton (defensive lineman), Adin Huntington (defensive line) and Caleb Ransaw (cornerback). Green also was a third team All-Conference selection last season.
Green is in his fourth year as a starter with the program. He has started all 12 games for Tulane at offensive tackle and has helped the offense rank among the top five in the league in third down conversions (1st – 52.7), completion percentage (1st – 65.3), scoring offense (1st – 39.1), interceptions thrown (2nd – 5), red zone offense (2nd - 91.5), passing efficiency (2nd – 167.79),  rushing (3rd - 212.9), time of possession (3rd - 33:42), first downs (4th – 263) and passing yards per completions (4th – 14.51).The offense has scored 20+ points in 11 of the team's 12 games.

Hamilton is in his third season with the program. He has appeared in all 12 games with eight starts. Hamilton has totaled 21 tackles, six tackles for loss and tied for the team lead with 4.5 sacks. He also leads the team with four quarterback hurries and is tied for the squad lead with a pair of forced fumbles.
Huntington is in his first year at Tulane. He has appeared in 11 games with five starts. Huntington has totaled 23 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles.
Ransaw is in his first year Tulane. He has appeared and started 11 games. Ransaw has totaled 31 tackles, four tackles for loss, a sack and three pass breakups.
Tulane also saw Yulkeith Brown (wide receiver) earn All-AAC Honorable Mention honors. It was the first All-AAC selection for him.
Brown ranks second on the team with 31 catches. He has totaled 440 yards while averaging 14.4 yards per catch and is tied for second on the squad with four receiving touchdowns. He also has picked up 38 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Tulane finished the 2024 regular season with a 9-3 record and 7-1 mark in the AAC. The Green Wave will play in the league's championship game for the third consecutive season when the program goes on the road to take on Army (10-1, 8-0 AAC) in West Point, New York on Friday. The three straight AAC Championship appearances is tied for the most consecutive in league history along with Memphis (2017-19) and Cincinnati (2019-21).
Tulane leads the AAC and the nation with six defensive touchdowns. The program is placed second in passing efficiency in the conference with a 167.79.
The Green Wave's football team was chosen for third in the AAC Preseason Media Poll with 362 points plus two first-place votes at the annual conference media day.
This season, Tulane brings back three of the team's five starters on the offensive line (Shadre Hurst, Josh Remetich, Rashad Green), the leading rusher in the conference (Makhi Hughes), two of the team's top four receivers (Alex Bauman, Yulkeith Brown), the team's punter (Will Karoll) and long snapper (Ethan Hudak), the team's top three tacklers (Jesus Machado, Tyler Grubbs and Bailey Despanie) and three of the six leading defensive players in tackles for loss (Patrick Jenkins, Grubbs and Kameron Hamilton)
Tulane finished the 2023 season with a mark of 11-3 and a perfect 8-0 record in the American Athletic Conference. The program concluded the campaign with the 16th bowl appearance at the GoBowling Military Bowl contest against Virginia Tech. It was the fifth time in the last six years that Tulane has appeared in a bowl game. The team is 32-8 over the last three seasons.
The school announced the hiring of Jon Sumrall as the 42nd head coach of the team on December 8, 2023. The Huntsville, Alabama native was one of the most successful head coaches in the country the last two seasons. He guided Troy University to a 23-4 record, two Sun Belt Conference championships and a pair of double-digit winning streaks. He was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of Year and was twice named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year honor. Sumrall returns to Tulane after serving as the Green Wave's Co-Defensive Coordinator for three years (2012-14). In 2013, he was a crucial part of Tulane's run to the New Orleans Bowl, the program's first postseason appearance since 2002 and third since 1988. Sumrall also was named a finalist for FootballScoop Defensive Line Coach of the Year.
Next, Tulane's football team travels to West Point, New York to take on Army this Friday night at 7 p.m. in a game that will also be shown on ESPN.
