Detroit, Michigan  – Tulane graduate student Kristen Derr was named a National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Honorable Mention All-American, the organization announced tonight.
Derr is one of only 42 players nationally to earn the honor this season.
She is the first NTCA All-American for the program since Madison McCall earned the distinction during the spring of 2022. McCall was a four-time NTCA Honorable Mention All-American in her career (2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022).
Overall Derr's selection is the seventh time that a Tulane bowler has earned NTCA All-American accolades.
Coming into 2024 NCAA Bowling Championship, where all four teams contending for the national title this season are from Conference USA, Derr is ranked No. 20 in the league in player composite performance index (PCPI). PCPI is a measure that combines the identified categories "percentage of competitors that a bowler has outperformed" within each category. A player that ranks first in a category is given a PCP of 100%. Derr's PCPI was 42.408 percent this season. She had an overall average of 201.1 on the year while playing in 95.2 percent of the team's frames. Derr had a traditional average of 203.8 and a baker average of 199.5. She earned All-Tournament honors at the Northeast Classic this season. Derr totaled a pair of top-10 finishes on the season and six placing in the top-20 of an event. She was the team's top finisher in five events on the campaign.
Next Tulane competes in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate (ISC) Singles and (ITC) Team National Championships from April 16-20 in Kingpin Lanes in Jeffersontown, Kentucky. The team championships of the event will officially go from April 18-20. Tulane's squad had a strong finish to tie for third in the qualifier with 12,450 pins over the course of 64 games in Fort Worth on March 10 to earn the opportunity to compete for a national championship. The event will also feature Morgan Gitlitz competing individually in the elimination tournament for singles titles from April 16-20. Gitlitz earned her spot after placing fourth overall in the USBC's Intercollegiate Sectional Qualifier among all the competitors on March 8. She is the second Tulane bowler to ever qualify for the Intercollegiate Singles Championships (ISC) after McCall in 2022.
