Tulane Tops UAB to Advance in the C-USA Championship

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – In a rematch from less than a week ago Tulane University beach volleyball got revenge over UAB with a 3-0 victory on Thursday to advance to the second round of the 2024 Conference USA Beach Volleyball Championship. The Green Wave earned a victory in its tournament opener for the second-straight season in Conference USA and will take on the No. 1 seed sixth-ranked TCU in the next round.

The dual marked the 26th all-time meeting between the Wave and the Blazers with Tulane improving to 19-7 in the series after the first-round victory.

The action was rolling in favor of the Green Wave early as Tulane took the first set on four of the five courts in play. The dependable pair of Samantha Green and Skylar Ensign drew first blood in the dual with their 29th win of the spring. Green and S. Ensign put the Wave in front 1-0 with a two-set victory at flight four. Green led the duo with an impressive 15 digs and 14 kills in the two-set match while S. Ensign added nine digs and nine kills of her own.

Over at flight five Amelia Mullen and McKenzie Cutler extended the lead to 2-0 for the Wave. The duo cruised to a two-set win to mark its 24th victory of the spring.
Sara Hall and Savka Popovic pushed the Wave into the next round from flight two. The pair battled to win in two sets and clinch the dual for Tulane over UAB 3-0. Hall led the pair on the way to victory with 15 kills while Popovic tallied 18 digs and a pair of aces.
Up next, Tulane will square off the top-seeded Horned Frogs for No. 6 TCU on Friday. The dual between the Green Wave and TCU is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and air live on ESPN+.
