Track and Field Has Strong Second Day at the AAC Championships

San Antonio, Texas â Kate Sander placed fifth in the pole vault to highlight the second day of action for Tulane's track and field team on Saturday at the Park West Complex at the AAC Outdoor Championships. The team earned six points on the afternoon and saw a pair advance in the preliminaries of the 800m. Through the first two days of action the men's team is ninth with six points, while the women are 11th with 11 points.
Sander set a personal record with her 3.88m/12'8.75" for four team points. Cosette Fleury finished 13th in the pole vault with a 3.28m/10'09.00".
Elena Liano-Rengel won her heat and was the runner-up overall in the preliminaries of 800m to automatically qualify for Sunday's final with a 2:10.87.
Zander Dunbar also won his heat and was the runner-up overall in the preliminaries of the men's 800m to automatically qualify for Sunday's final with a 1:51.85. Jalen St. Fort placed 15th in the event (1:56.05), Parker Orlowsky took 16th (1:56.90), Roman Schrader finished 17th (1:57.19), Sam Cohen earned 19th with 1:57.95 and Charles Henne took 23rd with a 2:02.06.
In the seven overall events of the heptathlon, Laura Fodor placed seventh with 5080 points to earn two team points. Kaia Todd completed the two days with 4360 points. Patricija Ozolina received a did not finish as she was unable to compete in the 800m. Fodor led the team in placing seventh with a 5.56m/18'03.00" in the long jump. Ozolina took 11th with a 5.28m/17'04.00", while Todd took 15th with a 4.92m/16'01.75". Ozolina set a new personal best and placed second in the javelin with her throw of 39.82m/130'07.00". Fodor took seventh with a personal record 33.01m/108'03.00" with Todd placing 12th with a 25.94m/85'01". Fodor finished strong by taking fourth in the 800m with 2:23.60. Todd took 13th in the 800m with a 2:42.55.
The team had a pair of personal bests set in the shot put as Sofie Groeninger placed 10th overall with a 13.28m/43'07.00" and Alyssa Dismuke took 14th with a 12.33m/40'5.50".
Lee Harris took 15th in the 100m with a 10.78.
Mason Wong earned 16th in the 3000m steeplechase with a 9:50.04.
Alexis Esteves set a personal best with her 58.28 in the 400m. Alyssa Taylor ran a 58.94 in the event.
Robyn Larkan represented the program with a 15.09 the 100m hurdles.
Next the program wraps up competition at the AAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with the third day starting with the triple jump at 2:30 p.m. The program will also compete in the women's discus, the women's 4x100m relay, the finals for the men's and women's 1500m, the finals for the men's and women's 800m, the men's and women's 5000m plus the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
