NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane swimming and diving team was recently recognized both individually and as a team for outstanding work in the classroom during the 2024 spring semester by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
The program saw the 23 members of the squad put up a 3.37 spring GPA for head coach Amanda Caldwell to earn Scholar All-America Team honors by the CSCAA. In order to earn the national recognition, the team needed a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and higher for the semester.
Samantha Barany, Executive Director of the CSCAA, praised the outstanding achievements, stating, "The commitment to academic excellence shown by these teams is truly admirable. It's inspiring to see student-athletes excelling both in the pool and in their studies. The CSCAA takes great pride in acknowledging and celebrating the dedication and perseverance of these teams."
Also earning a spot on the CSCAA's Scholar All-American Second Team as an individual was diver Katie Lipsey. She graduated this spring with a communications degree and qualified for Zones in diving for the first time in her career. During the spring semester, Lipsey had a 3.934 grade-point average (GPA).
To qualify for CSCAA First-Team Scholar All-American, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections, must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met a "B" time standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet.
Tulane's swimming program had an outstanding 2023-24 season that resulted in 64 lifetime bests, 31 all-time top-10 school marks, four school records, an AAC individual title, an AAC Freshman of the Year Award, 11 National Invite Championship Qualifiers, a Zone Diver Qualifier and an NCAA qualifier.
