Jul 19, 2024 | Women's Swimming and Diving
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University swimming and diving program, under the direction of head coach Amanda Caldwell, announced the hiring of Canaan Campbell as the program's assistant coach.
"I am thrilled to have Canaan join our program," Coach Caldwell emphatically exclaimed! "His arrival will inject a surge of experience and enthusiasm, setting the stage for an electrifying school year ahead."
Campbell spent the last four years at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri as an assistant coach for the men's and women's swimming and diving teams primarily working with the mid distance/stroke group. The past two years, Lindenwood competed in the Summit League Conference finishing second with the men and third with the women in both seasons. Prior to the transition to Division I, Lindenwood was a Division II post-season regular. The program captured the 2021 Women's Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship and later securing fourth at the 2021 Division II Nationals for the highest finish in school history. During those four years, Campbell coached many Division II All-Americans, Conference Champions at the Division II and Division I level, and the 2023 CSCAA National Invitational Champion in the men's 100 IM while being a part of the staff that was named coach of the year three times (2021 GLVC Women, 2023 Summit League Men, 2024 Summit League Men).Â
In addition to his role at Lindenwood, Campbell was the National Coach for Parkway Swim Club for the last 1.5 years after serving in an assistant role for two years. Campbell led Parkway Swim Club to the 2024 Summer Sectionals Combined Championship for the first time in 19 years with the men's team finishing second and the women's team finishing fourth. During that stretch, he had multiple US Open, Junior National, and Futures qualifiers while setting multiple club and Ozark LSC records.
Prior to Lindenwood, Campbell was the graduate assistant at Georgia Southern University working under Coach Caldwell during the 2019-2020 season and obtained his master's degree in Coaching Education. He was a four-year letterwinner at Missouri State University and a member of the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championship team while also being named the 2018 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.Â
Originally from Lawrence, Kansas, Campbell is a 2014 graduate of Lawrence Free State High School. He is a member of the College Swim Coaches Association of America and a certified USA Swimming Coach. Campbell was recently named a recipient of the 2024 Jean Freeman Scholarship.
Tulane's swimming program had an outstanding 2023-24 season that resulted in 64 lifetime bests, 31 all-time top-10 school marks, four school records, an AAC individual title, an AAC Freshman of the Year Award, 11 National Invite Championship Qualifiers, a Zone Diver Qualifier and an NCAA qualifier. The program is returning 13 swimmer and divers from last season and is bringing in a newcomer class of 11 for Coach Caldwell's third season in charge of the program.
