
No. 19 Tulane Bowling Finishes Second at SWIBC I; Stolakis Third to Lead Wave’s Top-10 Trio

FORT WORTH, Texas – The 19th-ranked Tulane University bowling team wrapped up the first of two Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) tournaments today with a strong showing, placing second overall at Cityview Lanes on Saturday. A trio of Green Wave bowlers placed in the top 10, led by Mia Stolakis with her third-place result.
Tulane was one of 10 teams participating in the SWIBC I today, which featured four traditional team matches and 10 baker games. With an overall total of 5,927 pins, Tulane finished second in the event. Fellow member of Conference USA, No. 9 Louisiana Tech, won with a total of 6,237.
Mia Stolakis led the way for the Green Wave with 880 total pins, averaging 220 over her four games to place third among the 67 total bowlers. She earned SWIBC I All-Tournament Team honors. Stolakis started off with a 238 in her first game, a high for the Wave on the day. She followed with performances of 198-222-222.
The individual winner of the event was Louisiana Tech's Kylee Trexler, who totaled 947 pins on the day. Stolakis was only two pins shy of the runner-up, Juliana Kerrigan (882) of the Bulldogs.
Paige Matiasek placed sixth as the next in a trio of Wave bowlers in the top 10. Matiasek totaled an 853 (213.25 average) after bowling games of 224-216-223-190. Juanelyz Solla finished 10th to round out the stellar trio with her total of 822, averaging 205.5 on the day. After opening with a 194, Solla put forth 200-plus efforts in each of her following three games with 215-211-202.
Emma Fetterman played two games, scoring 230 and 193 for a 423 total. Averaging 211.5 for her two games, she checked in at 46th on the leaderboard. Linnea Holcomb was 49th after scoring a 367 with a 183.5 average over two games, in which she bowled a 199 and 168.
The remaining three Tulane bowlers all made their Green Wave debuts today. Valeria Colon bowled a 159 in game one and closed out with a 200 to score 359 on the day. She was 50th with a 179.5 average. Freshman Lyllian Smith bowled just one game, scoring 187 to place 61st. Sarah Rubi bowled once as well, scoring 144 to place 64th.
The weekend of play concludes tomorrow with the SWIBC II tournament. Tomorrow will see five traditional team matches played beginning at 8:30 a.m.
