Track and Field Shatters Records During Another Historic Weekend

BOSTON – Indoor Track and Field spent the weekend in Boston at the John Thomas Terrier Invite, where they once again produced a pair of school records and a collection of top-ten times.Tulane Track and Field now owns numerous top AAC times and top all-time Tulane times.
Paula Vaquera again broke the school record in the 3000m, which she set on Jan. 17 at the Vanderbilt Invite. Her time of 9:17.8 was nearly 10 seconds faster than her previous time and she now holds three of the school's top four times in the event.
Illia Kunin also broke his school record for the 3000m this weekend, running a 7:52.65 to beat out his Jan. 27, 2024 time of 7:55.54. He now holds the top two spots in Tulane's history for the event.
Danna Diaz is now ranked second in the 3000m for Tulane, as she ran a 9.29.99 this weekend. Vaquera and Diaz are ranked first and second in the AAC for the 3000m. Also in the 3000m, Alex Sharp earned the seventh fastest Tulane all-time spot at 9:48.05, while Lily Porth is now ninth of all time with 9:51.95. They are both now also seventh and ninth in the AAC with their new times. Morgan Matthews ran a personal record in the event with a new best time of 10:11.25.
Danna Diaz, Reese Ragland, Elena Liano, and Paula Vaquera currently hold the top four times for the women's mile in the AAC, while Tharushi Karunarathna, Janae Dean, and Elena Liano hold the top three times in the AAC for the women's 800m.
Karunarathna is now the second fastest 800m runner in Tulane history, with her time of 2:08.09 putting her within reaching distance of the top spot of 2:06.17, which was set by Janae Dean last year.
Ragland now holds the seventh-highest Tulane time in the mile at 4:48.64. Liano is eighth of all time with her time of 4:49.06.
The Green Wave will return to Boston on Feb. 7 and 8 for the Harvard Crimson Open.
