
AAC Releases 2025 Football Schedule

Irving, Texas – The American Athletic Conference (AAC) released the 2025 Tulane football schedule on Friday afternoon.
The schedule is highlighted for the Green Wave with six home games this season, the hosting two Power 4 schools among the four non-conference match-ups, a pair of Thursday games plus a Friday contest. All game times will be announced at a later date.
Tulane starts the season at home at Yulman Stadium hosting Northwestern of the Big 10 Conference on Saturday, August 30. The Green Wave are 3-1 against Northwestern in a series that was first played in 1925 with Tulane earning an 18-7 victory in Evanston, Ill. The last time the teams played against each other was 1956 with the Green Wave winning 20-13 also on the road. This will mark the first time that Tulane has played Northwestern in New Orleans since 1955 when the program won 21-0.
The program travels to Mobile, Ala. to take on South Alabama on Saturday, September 6. Tulane is 2-1 all-time against South Alabama. The teams first played each other in 2013. Tulane has won the last two games of the series including a 37-17 victory to start the 2023 season.
The team then returns home to host Duke of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) on Saturday, September 13. Tulane is 2-3 all-time against Duke. The Green Wave and the Blue Devils first met on the gridiron in 1946 with Tulane coming away with a 17-0 shutout. The last meeting was in 2015. Duke has won the last three matchups against Tulane. The 2025 game will also be the annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend.
Tulane next hits the road to Oxford, Miss. take on Ole Miss of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) on Saturday, September 20. Tulane, a former member of the SEC, is 28-45 all-time against the Rebels. The first meeting between the Rebels and the Green Wave came in 1893. Tulane's last victory over Ole Miss came in 1988 by a 14-9 score on the road. The program has lost 13 consecutive games to Ole Miss including a 37-20 game in the last meeting in 2023.
The team stays on the road and begins conference play in Tulsa, Okla. to take on Tulsa on Saturday, September 27. The program trails the all-time series against Tulsa by a 13-7 count since the schools first started playing each other in 1968. Tulane has won two in a row and five of the last seven over the Golden Hurricanes including a 24-22 home win in 2023.
After the first of two bye weeks, Tulane hosts East Carolina on Thursday, October 9. The Green Wave trails the all-time series against the Pirates 12-8 since the first meeting between the schools in 1991. Tulane has won two in a row and five of the last six of the series including a 13-10 road victory in 2023.
The homestand continues the following weekend as the team welcomes in Army for a Saturday, October 18 match-up. Tulane leads the series 13-10-1 all-time against the Knights since the start of the play between the schools in 1953. Tulane has won four of the last five games of the series but did suffer a 35-14 road defeat to the Knights in the 2024 AAC Championship Game.
Next the team plays on a short week and hits the road to San Antonio, Texas against UTSA on Thursday, October 30. Tulane is 1-1 all-time against the Roadrunners since the start of the series in 2013. The Green Wave earned a 29-16 victory in the final regular season game of the 2023 season.
The following week sees the team on the road to take on Memphis on Friday, November 7 in Memphis, Tenn. The Green Wave trails 25-15-1 in the all-time series against the Tigers since the first meeting in 1954. The Tigers earned the 34-24 victory to end the 2024 regular season in the last contest between the schools last year.
The team returns home the following week and hosts Florida Atlantic for Homecoming on Saturday, November 15. Tulane is 1-1 all-time against the Owls since the first meeting in 2013. Tulane earned the 24-8 road victory in 2023 in the last meeting between the schools.
The team's final regular season road game takes the program to Philadelphia, Pa. to battle against Temple on Saturday, November 22. The Green Wave is 2-4 all-time against the Owls. The program defeated Temple by a 52-6 score in 2024 in the last meeting.
Tulane finishes the 2025 regular season and the month of November hosting Charlotte on Saturday, November 29. The program is 1-0 all-time against the 49ers with the only meeting being last season's 34-3 road victory.
The program begins spring practices on Tuesday, March 18. The spring concludes on Saturday, April 19, with the Spring Game at 10 a.m.

The Tulane football team (9-5) ended the season playing in the program's third consecutive bowl game. It was also the sixth time in the last seven years that Tulane had been selected to play in a bowl game (2018 – Cure Bowl, 2019 – Armed Forces Bowl, 2020 – Famous Idaho Bowl, 2022 – Cotton Bowl, 2023 – Military Bowl and 2024 – Gasparilla Bowl). Overall, it was Tulane's 17th bowl appearance (1932 – Rose Bowl, 1935 – Sugar Bowl, 1939 – Sugar Bowl, 1970 – Liberty Bowl, 1973 – Astro Bluebonnet Bowl, 1979 – Liberty Bowl, 1980 – Hall of Fame Bowl, 1987 – Independence Bowl, 1998 – Liberty Bowl, 2002 – Hawaii Bowl, 2013 – New Orleans, 2018 – Cure Bowl, 2019 – Armed Forces Bowl, 2020 -Famous Idaho Bowl, 2022 – Cotton Bowl, 2023 – Military Bowl and 2024 – Gasparilla Bowl) with the program sporting an all-time record of 7-10 in bowl games.
Tulane also made the team's third straight AAC Championship Game appearance. The program sports a 32-10 record over the last three seasons. The team's 32 wins is the fourth-most nationally. The team placed first or second in the AAC in 10 different categories including leading the league in third down conversions (52.5), defensive touchdowns (6), completion percentage (65.6), scoring offense (37.2) and passing efficiency defense (111.65). The team was the national leader in defensive touchdowns with six.
The team had a league-high 18 players selected All-AAC this season including 2025 returners Derrick Graham (First Team – offensive tackle), Shadre Hurst (First Team – offensive guard), Sam Howard (Second Team – linebacker), Bailey Despanie (Second Team – defensive back), Rayshawn Pleasant (Second Team – return specialist) and Kameron Hamilton (Third Team – defensive line)
The Green Wave's football team was chosen for third in the AAC Preseason Media Poll with 362 points plus two first-place votes at the annual conference media day.
The school announced the hiring of Jon Sumrall as the 42nd head coach of the team on December 8, 2023. The Huntsville, Alabama native has been one of the most successful head coaches in the country the last three seasons with a record of 32-9, two Sun Belt Conference championships and a pair of double-digit winning streaks. He was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of Year and was twice named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year honor. Sumrall returned to Tulane after serving as the Green Wave's Co-Defensive Coordinator for three years (2012-14). In 2013, he was a crucial part of Tulane's run to the New Orleans Bowl, the program's first postseason appearance since 2002 and third since 1988. Sumrall also was named a finalist for FootballScoop Defensive Line Coach of the Year.
