AAC Releases Start Times and TV Networks For Six Football Games

Irving, Texas  – The American Athletic Conference (AAC) released the start times and television networks for the first three contests and a total of six Tulane football games this season on Thursday, May 29.
Tulane is set to start the 2025 season at home at Yulman Stadium against Northwestern University of the Big 10 Conference at 11 a.m. CT/ 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 30, in a game that will be shown on ESPNU. The Green Wave are 3-1 against Northwestern in a series that was first played in 1925 with Tulane earning an 18-7 victory in Evanston, Ill. The last time the teams played against each other was 1956 with the Green Wave winning 20-13 also on the road. This will mark the first time that Tulane has played Northwestern in New Orleans since 1955 when the program won 21-0.
Tulane then travels to Mobile, Ala. to take on the University of South Alabama of the Sun Belt Conference on Saturday, Sept. 6, in the second week of the season starting at 6 p.m. CT/7 p.m. ET in a game shown on ESPN+. Tulane is 2-1 all-time against South Alabama. The teams first played each other in 2013. Tulane has won the last two games of the series including a 37-17 victory to start the 2023 season.
The program is set to host Duke University of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) at 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 13, in a game that will be shown on ESPN2 in the third game of the season. Tulane is 2-3 all-time against Duke. The Green Wave and the Blue Devils first met on the gridiron in 1946 with Tulane coming away with a 17-0 shutout. The last meeting was in 2015. Duke has won the last three matchups against Tulane. The 2025 game will also be the annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend.
The team is scheduled to host conference rival East Carolina at 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 9, on either ESPN or ESPN2. The Green Wave trails the all-time series against the Pirates 12-8 since the first meeting between the schools in 1991. Tulane has won two in a row and five of the last six games of the series including a 13-10 road victory in 2023.
Tulane is set to travel to San Antonio, Texas for a game against fellow AAC member UTSA on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. CT/7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be shown on either ESPN or ESPN2. Tulane is 1-1 all-time against the Roadrunners since the start of the series in 2013. The Green Wave earned a 29-16 victory in the final regular season game of the 2023 season.
Tulane's road game in Memphis, Tenn. to play against the Tigers on Friday, Nov. 7, starts at 8 p.m. CT/9 p.m. ET and shown on ESPN. The Green Wave trails 25-15-1 in the all-time series against the Tigers since the first meeting in 1954. The Tigers earned the 34-24 victory to end the 2024 regular season in the last contest between the schools last year.
The American Athletic Conference Football Championship Game, which Tulane has played in the last three seasons, will air on ABC on Friday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. CT / 8 p.m. ET. It will be the 11th consecutive season The American Championship will be televised on ABC.

The Tulane football team (9-5) ended the season playing in the program's third consecutive bowl game. It was also the sixth time in the last seven years that Tulane had been selected to play in a bowl game (2018 – Cure Bowl, 2019 – Armed Forces Bowl, 2020 – Famous Idaho Bowl, 2022 – Cotton Bowl, 2023 – Military Bowl and 2024 – Gasparilla Bowl). Overall, it was Tulane's 17th bowl appearance (1932 – Rose Bowl, 1935 – Sugar Bowl, 1939 – Sugar Bowl, 1970 – Liberty Bowl, 1973 – Astro Bluebonnet Bowl, 1979 – Liberty Bowl, 1980 – Hall of Fame Bowl, 1987 – Independence Bowl, 1998 – Liberty Bowl, 2002 – Hawaii Bowl, 2013 – New Orleans, 2018 – Cure Bowl, 2019 – Armed Forces Bowl, 2020 -Famous Idaho Bowl, 2022 – Cotton Bowl, 2023 – Military Bowl and 2024 – Gasparilla Bowl) with the program sporting an all-time record of 7-10 in bowl games.
Tulane also made the team's third straight AAC Championship Game appearance. The program sports a 32-10 record over the last three seasons. The team's 32 wins is the fourth-most nationally. The team placed first or second in the AAC in 10 different categories including leading the league in third down conversions (52.5), defensive touchdowns (6), completion percentage (65.6), scoring offense (37.2) and passing efficiency defense (111.65). The team was the national leader in defensive touchdowns with six.
The team had a league-high 18 players selected All-AAC this season including 2025 returners Derrick Graham (First Team – offensive tackle), Shadre Hurst (First Team – offensive guard),  Sam Howard (Second Team – linebacker), Bailey Despanie (Second Team – defensive back) and Kameron Hamilton (Third Team – defensive line)
The Green Wave's football team was chosen for third in the AAC Preseason Media Poll with 362 points plus two first-place votes at the annual conference media day.
The school announced the hiring of Jon Sumrall as the 42nd head coach of the team on December 8, 2023. The Huntsville, Alabama native has been one of the most successful head coaches in the country the last three seasons with a record of 32-9, two Sun Belt Conference championships and a pair of double-digit winning streaks. He was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of Year and was twice named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year honor. Sumrall returned to Tulane after serving as the Green Wave's Co-Defensive Coordinator for three years (2012-14). In 2013, he was a crucial part of Tulane's run to the New Orleans Bowl, the program's first postseason appearance since 2002 and third since 1988. Sumrall also was named a finalist for FootballScoop Defensive Line Coach of the Year.
