ORLANDO, Fla. – Day three of the Destination Florida came to a close Sunday at AMF Sky Lanes with the 17th-ranked Tulane bowling team going 1-2 on the final day of action. The Green Wave ultimately placed 15th in the final standings.
Â
The day opened with the final round of qualifying as each team played one more traditional match. Tulane squared off against No. 2 Vanderbilt, falling 1,113-949. This left Tulane seeded 14th for the bracket portion, in which each team played two best-of-seven Baker matches.
Â
Tulane first faced 15th-seeded Alabama State and fell in a heartbreaker, 4.5-2.5. The Hornets won the opening game 202-168 before the Wave pulled level with a 210-186 win. Alabama State responded with a 203-170 win, but the pendulum swung once more as Tulane claimed a 190-167 victory. After the Hornets won 205-183, the teams tied at 189-all. Alabama State then won 199-183 to clinch the match.

Next up for the Wave was a contest against Bryant, which Tulane won 4-3. The Wave opened strong, jumping out a 3-0 lead with wins of 172-164, 187-159, and 214-156. However, the Bulldogs pushed back to claim three wins in a row by scores of 208-179, 208-185, and 192-163. With the winner-take-all seventh match now necessary, the Wave responded and claimed a major 257-175 triumph to seal the match and secure 15th place in the final standings.
Â
Tulane was 7-6 overall on the weekend with a total pinfall of 13,310 and an average of 193 per game. The Wave placed 15th in the 23-team field.

Freshman Malia Briggs was named to the all-tournament second team upon the conclusion of the event after her 10th-place finish in traditional match play. She totaled 1,334 pins with an average of 222.33 and rolled over 200 in five of her six games, including a 233 today and a new-perfect 299 in the first game yesterday. This is the first all-tournament honor of her career.
