IRVING, TX – The Tulane football team saw senior defensive back / kick returner TJ Smith and redshirt junior linebacker Dickson Agu recognized by the American Conference on Nov. 2. Smith was named as the league's Special Teams Player of the Week, while Agu was Weekly Honor Roll selection.
Smith had a game-changing play with his 95-yard kickoff return touchdown with the team trailing 10-7 midway through the second quarter on the road against Charlotte. It was Smith's first kickoff return touchdown of the season, the 12th longest kickoff return in school history and the longest for a Tulane player since Rayshawn Pleasant returned a kickoff for a 100-yard touchdown during the 2024 campaign. Smith is averaging a team-best 33.3 yards per return this season on his nine attempts and second in the conference and fourth nationally in kickoff return touchdowns. This was his second non-offensive touchdown of the season as he also returned an interception for a 76-yard touchdown against Memphis (10/16/26).
Agu led the defensive effort for Tulane in the 38-31 overtime victory over Charlotte on Friday, Oct. 30 with his 14 tackles. The 14 tackles tied his career high and marked his fourth game with double figure stops this season. He also had half a tackle for loss. Agu is second in the conference and 10th nationally with his average of 9.8 tackles per game.
The selections were the fourth and fifth weekly honor by the league office for a Tulane football player this season. He is the first Tulane player to be named Special Teams Player of the Week since Patrick Durkin last season (11/24/25)
